My rat Lumpy went to rainbow bridge earlier on tonight. I remember when i got him.... me and my partner were in *pet shop* and i was buying hammocks and toys. I couldn't resist having a peek at the rats and i noticed one big boy who was a lot older than the rest, i asked the assistant why he was a lot older than the other and she said that he had been put in with girls and got 3 of them pregnant. The girl rats also beat him up pretty badly, the end of his tail was damaged and because of this no one was interested in buying him . I couldn't just leave him there so i said that i would take him, she said i could have him for free if i liked . I felt so sorry for him, how could no one want him? I took him home and called him Lumpy because of his "lumpy" tail. We had some teething problems because he liked to nibble fingers but i didn't give up on him and he turned out to love his cuddles and he never bit anyone again. He wasn't the healthest of rats but he was a fighter, tonight he passed away in my partners arms . :(
