Baby Chinchilla

I answered a free ad today for a baby chinchilla who is 3 weeks now to be rehomed at 12 wks - the problem is the Mother has apparently chewed off the babies foot and some of her toes on another foot - is this normal?? I have only ever had a boy chinny before so have no experience of mums and babes, but I felt desperately sorry for her and am also a sucker for a runt! Do you think it will be ok ? the ad says that shes doing fine. I would appreciate an chinchilla experts advice out there before the woman replies to me and I get further in, although to be honest I'm smitten already ! Please advise.......
