Just wondering what kind of cages people keep their syrian hamsters in please? (and size?)
And best food/bedding etc.
thanks x
I once kept a syrian in one of those rotastaks with all the tubes, he obsolutely loved it but the problem i found was that it was very hard to actually get hold of him! LOL so i transfered him to a double hamster cage ( which i also had a problem with because he jumped from the top and broke his leg, luckily at the time i was doing my animal care course at college and took him there where he stayed for a while and had lots of ppl to help me excercise his leg, he did recover but he never used it quite the same) So as well as him getting a third cage, just the biggest single hamster cage i could find, he had a box which i supervised him in full of his tubes etc.Bless him he finally went over to rainbow bridge at a very respectable old age....LOL
This was about 8 years ago and he had woodshavings and the soft ripped up paper as bedding. He had that harry hamster food and id buy him mixed nuts and fruits for treats and taming etc. (used to laugh my head off when he filled his little pouches with the brazil nuts lol)
I know this thread is a couple of days old, but anyway.. XD
I keep my syrian hamster in a bin cage, they're one of the best cages because they're cheap, light and come in really big sizes. They're basically just storage boxes adapted into a cage. I use Carefresh and shredded white toilet paper for her bedding. I feed her Harry Hamster food, or food from our local feed store, it's not the best, it has coloured bits in it which you probably know isn't that good, but it's hard to find a pellet hamster food here. The best food would be a pellet food if you could find one, or lab blocks, but failing that Harry Hamster is pretty decent. Also, my hamster loves dog biscuits :D
Our hamster, called Dudley, lives in a huge rotastak cage. I bought the creepy castle one and then just kept adding to it, and adding to it....His main compartment sits on the top of our fridge and then the tubing takes him to another section, where i put his treats, and then across the welsh dresser and then more tubing down the other side to a table which is his dining area....he has a burrow basement and a maze and loads of toys. The kids love him and hes spoilt rotten....
But guess who cleans it all out.....yes...me! and its a nightmare and takes about 2 hours to do properly.
