Pinky has passed away

I feel really bad. :'( :'(

whilst I was away, one of my oldest boys Pinky passed away. He would have been 7 in February 2007.
My daughter who was looking after them was so upset, on finding him, his brother was huddled up to him Trying to warm him I think. Bless him.

He was my piggy that had the bad chest infection back in the summer.

not sure what to do with his brother Perky he is so sad,
any one got any suggestions

I know he was a great age, think that is what makes it even harder.
Just hope his brother doesn't pine for him too much as he is the same age have everything crossed for him.

I wish he had been neutered when he was younger then I would have been able to put him with the girls for company.

awww so sorry to hear this you might remember I too lost tigers brother Jasper a few weeks back and also found him cuddled up to his brother trying to keep him warm,but next day tiger also lost another run mate Romeo again he was snuggled up with him, but I managed to introduce dobby ( good old dobby) to tiger and bertie, and alls well, I would keep an eye on him as i have lost brothers who pined away, so if you can pair him up, do so, God bless Pinky your brother and mummy will miss you :'(

Sorry to hear about Pinky Karen.

In my opinion...
Perky is rather old to try and pal him up with another boar, trying to introduce an adult to an adult boar, could very well be too stressful for him. I can only say that I would not advise this based on my experience with piggies.
He might accept a baby boar (I'd recommend 8 weeks) but you would have to keep a close eye on how their friendship developed, as if the youngster grew to be very dominant, it wouldn't be good for Perky at his age.

If he were mine I'd try the baby boar option if I could, but wouldn't worry to much about Perky being alone if he was indoors and got lot's of love and attention. Have you other guineas he could be placed near to for company?

There's no easy answer to this one, probably everyone will have a differring opinion on what is best...so you can only follow your heart :-\

If you do decide to find a companion, do keep in mind what you will do with him if the pairing doesn't work out. As you will then have 2 male guineas living apart.

I am sorry to hear about your loss... the fact that that he lived to such a high age makes it even harder instead of being a comfort, doesnt it? :( My thoughts are with you.

As for what to do for your other piggy... you said you have girls? Could you put them into a cage with a divider? So he can hear and smell and talk to the other girls, but no risk of him getting them pregnant.
Also, if he was always with other males, the excitement of smelling girls again after such a long time could be a good distraction for him so that his mourning will be over very quickly..

If you want to try a baby boar, but arent sure if he will accept him - why not get two? If he doesnt want them, at least they will be having each other, instead of baby boar and old boar both sitting alone. But of course, this depends on how much space you have available.

I would go for a cage with the girls, but divided.

Perky is ok, he has lost weight but is eating all that he is given.
Perhaps it is just his age now

just giving him loads of cuddles
he is surrounded by other guinea's in their hutches
I also have a boar that was born a week ago, quite unexpected when he is older I may try with him. I will see how things go
