i have 4 guinea pigs.2 female 2 male all of same family mother ,father ,son ,daughter i care for them very much my problem is to begin with we got our young boy. a guinea pig for christmass a long haired male i felt sorry about him not having any of his own kind so my girlfriend went and got a younger female as we heard that getting 2 unrelated males may fight . anyway there was a pregnancy. but we were also told that the female could get pregnant again straight after her first so we got the father neuterd. she had 3 boys and a girl. we gave 2 of the boys to a close friend and kept a boy and girl and but i wasn t really aware at the time about the process of neutering was till my girl told me after what it involved to be honest don,t think she did either. anyway don"t think i would have went through with it . but he came back and was never as lively although now time has passed and he is obviously over it but his sex drive is non existant . anyway thats the history so now we have father, son in 1 cage mother, daughter in other cage cause i dont want to put the son through getting neuterd but the son is constantly at the girls cage also the dad was used to being with the mother and i have to let them out seperatly and i know they would be happier being able to socialise all together when i let them out. is there any kind of guinea pig jag or contraception pill i have looked on websites but there full of gibberish . i really want to give them a good quality of life its bad enough there caged but am not going down the surgery road if i can avoid it although am thinking buster the (son) may be happier eventually the way he acts toward the girls, and also i don,t let wally the (father) mingle with the girls anymore cause buster is on hind legs against side of cage looking on at the rest of his familly runnin about havin great time. also weird thing is was never really one to be getting all crazy bout small animals but feel responsible for there well being so if any1 can help would be apreciated .thanks
