Hello, we are going away for two nights, I have asked a lady who runs a rescue where we got two of our brood from to look after all five. I wondered what general thoughts were, to uproot the Piggles to take them to an experienced carer, and to help raise funds for the rescue; or is it preferable to keep them at home, but ask a neighbour who is not experienced in All Things Piggle?
Also they live inside, would they be OK to board in an outside hutch? They do graze outside when the weather allows!
Comments would be so gratefully received. I hate leaving them, I know I'll worry with inexperienced carers :.... But on the other hand, I'd love to go away!

Well I do boarding as a wee business so I am biased, lol. However if I have piggies that normally live indoors all the time, I give people the option to have them in or out as I have one indoor cage. The two indoors ones I have staying right now have never been outside not even in a run (yes, anyway) so they have been indoors for their two week stay, they are 5 so a sudden change wouldn't really have been a great idea for them.

It depends on your piggies really - if they are happy and healthy and easy to do, for a couple of nights the neighbour should be ok, as long as he/she can give the time up to sort them out and knows to call you for any unusual signs. However if any of them have any possible health issues or you are worried something may happen, I would send them to someone experience who knows the signs.

I left my girls with a neighbour once...she then complained to my mum they smelt and ate too much, I was livid, they are really clean and I told her what to feed them and she had fed them less as 'that seemed too much'! Since then I send them to a friend, or my mum does them if I go away with my partner.

I think it might be a good idea to let the rescue look after them, because it raises funds for the rescue and you know they are being well cared for, I'm sure your neighbour would take good care of them but I always prefer my guinea-pigs to stay with someone who knows a lot about guinea-pigs

If it was me I would take them back to the rescue for boarding, at least you know they will be looked after by someone with experience who will know what to do if they become ill.
It will give you extra peace of mind x
