That's great nat , but weren't you having to consider re-homing Georgy because of funds? Have you found a solution to your money probs? Are tortoises hard to keep? Good luck with it. :)

well when the problem with georgy, long story ahead - we werent sure if the house was sold because the people couldnt get a mortgage now it definetley is which means there'll be more money in the house because its a smaller mortgage to pay because our price range of houses are cheaper and we'll have money left over from the house im in now.

I didn't know that, that must have been a tough time. That's great you're finally getting a tortoise like you've always wanted. I'm sorry that your Mom is an evil so and so, but it's her loss, she's missing out on a great kid (and cute piggies and a tortoise!)

We had tortoise at Uni...
They are lovely but i wouldn't have one, for fear of it out living me...and then i would worry what would happen to him! ::)

What kind of tortoise are you getting?

They had 3 of these huuuge tortoise at a farm centre i went to the other day, and it was the same size as a medium sized dog!! and they were about 59!

my friend has one and i fell in love with it, it was so adorable :) it used to run (well fast for a tortiose) and nibble my hand and i used to stroke its little tortioise paws :smitten: it was so sweet i wanted to steal it! ;D

What type of tortoise are you getting? Be sure to properly research the exact species, because tortoise care varies quite widely, depending on the species you get. :)

My grandad has a tortoise called sammy they got him as a baby when alot were being imported in terrable conditions he rescued him and another one. Im glad that importing them like this all stopped now but that was 36 years ago, and he is still going strong ive heard they can live until they are 100. They are a bit complicated though he has had a few problems over the years, he hibernates for half of the year and when he is awake he eats for england ;D he is really friendly though and will come up to the conservitory door when he wants food.

That woould be cool... youd only have to feed them for half the year ;D It would be freaky if oyu didnt know they hybernate though and thought it was dead! The poor thing would wake up buried alive O_o lol
100years!!  O_o far out!

You really need to think long and hard about this. They require very specialist care.

Where are you going to get one from?
Are you going to be 100% sure it's captive bred?
Are you prepared to look after it during its life and prepare for the fact that it will, given good care, outlive you?
What sort of environment do you plan on keeping it in?
Are you 100% sure of the diet and care of the species you want?
Do you have a vet that could treat it if it gets ill?
Do you know how to recognise the signs of illness?
Can you cater properly for its need to hibernate?

Please, please think twice about this.
