he is so lucky, i wish i had my gerbils again, my oldest one gregory died at 5 2 months after we got guinea pigs.
but i have enough pets on my hands at the mo ::) anyway, having gerbils in my life from 4 years old to 12. i no alot about them.
so i tried giving him some tips. he had alot of woodshavings which they like to dig in, and cardboard toys. i gently took one out, i told my cousin it was good to get the gerbil used to his smell, so he will know him. so his mums partner walks in saying the woodshavings are too high and should only be this height, which was way to small to dig. i told my cousin it would be a good idea to use old cereal boxes and loo roll as a toy. and he said no i dont want any rubbish in the room. he tells my cousin to put away the gerbils because they need to settle in. he told us he doesnt want the gerbils di-gging tunnels so he doesnt want the sawdust high. then he told my cousin to keep his food on the top because they bury it. though i couldnt say anything to him this is what i was replying to in my head
gerbils like to dig tunnels so they like lots of sawdust
cereal boxes are chewed by the gerbils so wouldnt be rubbish i remeber when i had gerbils, anything cardboard and unharmful was thrown in, and they'd get days out of enjoy chewing and playin with it, and its useful so it shouldnt be thrown away.
animals need time to settle in yes, but they also need time to bond with the owner.
gerbils bury there food so they can find it later
my cousin told him i had gerbils but he still did the oppsitie ,he had ferrets when not gerbils. then the gerbils being males had a playfight and one had a small cut under his eye. he said this was because we were disturbing them and they were getting scared and stressed out.  :tickedoff:
grr it annoyed me so much. i told my cousin to buy a book about gerbils, because my experienced voice is not listened too, only a owner of another species.
oh well, i advised my cousin when he was gone. i picked one of the gerbils up alot. (the other hides) and it seems more relaxed already. it has its own name my cousin named it. but it bonded so well with me, i decided to call it after my guinea pig who i was very close too, coco.
