Hamsters, Rats, Mice, Moles are also are from the same classification as Cavies... Guinea pigs are domestic Cavies of this classification

Guinea pigs were called Pig coneys in the early 1600s

Rats and gerbils are under the same classification, known as cavies - they are rodents
