View Full Version : Advice needed !
Hey this is my first post i joined not long ago :) so i have 4 guinea pigs (2 girls living together and 2 boys who live separately).
I let them all have floor time each day and i was wondering if its ok for the boys to be able to see the girls through their enclosure? or will it wind them up? because they seem to get very excited running about but i'm not sure if this is because they are getting worked up or just excited??!

No no no! You should not have the boars anywhere near the sows as it can cause them to fight.
But the boars aren't anywhere near each other? they live separately :)

I think having the sows next door may upset there bond, personally I wouldn't risk it, although I do know people that have sow's in separate cages next door to boars but I also know my boys who live separately wind each other up something awful.
If it's not broke, don't fix it ;)!
Welcome to the forum! :)
Gorgeous piggies! x)..

If the boys aren't a bonded pair (and you don't ever intend them to be), then I don't see why there would be any issues with them being able to see the girls (or each other for that matter)? As long as they are separated by bars, I'm not sure there would be a problem?
Yeah they aren't bonded and never will be, thats what i thought :) thanks!

My boars aren't bonded either, but they are in cages where they can see the girls. Paddy's cage is on top of Dirk Piggler's. Dirk is next to Luna and her babies (who he got pregnant before I owned them) and Toffee, and he does rumble a lot at them, but I don't think any of them are stressed by it. Paddy can see the girls but he doesn't take much notice at all. So in my experience there's not much problem :).
I've never had boars and sows at once so i'm unable to advise personally :)
Thanks for sharing the cute pigture droolx)

Please do not allow your boars to have any playtime close to the girls, it is actually a bit unfair in my opinion to tease the boys in this way, as they will get very excited & want to get in with the girls & if you do not watch them every second then you could have a couple of unwanted pregnancies on your hands! All it takes is a minute of your back turned & one of the boys could jump over the bars in with the girls. Sorry it's just my opinion, but I really don't think its worth the risk. If you want to house your boys side by side so they can see each other for company that would be far kinder to them.
