i use cut up carpet tiles on mine and I have bent a c&c grid into a curve to make the ramp so you automatically get sides on the ramp....il try and find a pic for you.

a dog is definitely the best option although ours gets so excited by guinea poops he scraps at the side of the cage if there's a stray one near by so I have to be on constant poo watch as i'm sure they flick it to the side of the cage on purpose to get the dog in trouble :-)
