How to syringe fed a very reluctant naughty piggy. Help please

If she's eating some things for herself then this could be why she is reluctant to take more than 3mls per sitting Sending healing vibes your way - it's so draining dealing with a poorly piggie - ive had to do it 3 times this year, thankfully there was a happy ending for at least one of them :)

How to syringe fed a very reluctant naughty piggy. Help please

When one of my boys was neutered and i noticed he wasn't eating his evening veg i instantly panicked and grabbed the CC. I was getting about 15ml's in to him every couple of hours, however what i didn't realise was that i was filling him up so much on critical care he had no need/desire to eat...

    My accidental herd of males

5 boys all living in harmony - i cannot wait for pigtures x) One other thing to watch for is bedding/poops falling in to the cages below - i used to have two pairs of boys living in 2 x 150 cages side by side and then a group of 5 females and a neutered male on top in one huge cage (well 2 150...

    Imaverol dilution?

Ive just done 250ml of water to 5ml of imaverol and sat each pig in the solution (with the one not showing signs done first) and worked all over with a sponge (which I'm gonna throw away) they are both now drying off outside for 10mins (will bring them in shortly as its far too hot out there for...

    Imaverol dilution?

Ok - so applying it direct to the pig works just as well as dipping the whole pig? In terms of leaving the solution on and or rinsing it - i thought the protocol was that you fully cover piggy in the solution and leave it on allowing piggy to dry naturally - i didn't think it needed rinsing...

    Imaverol dilution?

So the imaverol is applied on the pig/affected areas - rather than the pig being fully dipped in to the made up solution? id always assumed dipping was the best way forward? (again I'm probably being really dense - but i dont know how to fully immerse a guinea pig in 50ml of water) One of the...

    Imaverol dilution?

Hi there, can someone tell me the dilution method for imaverol? I know it's 1 part solution to 50 parts water, but my mathematics is failing me it seems. I want to dip two pigs - ive filled a bucket with 2 full jugs of water (each jug is 1000ml) - how much imaverol would i need to add...

    long haired pig owners

This is good advice - a wet piggy is far easier to give a haircut to ;) It also pulls less and so is more enjoyable for the piggy..... re clippers - i find my lot struggle less with the clippers than they did when i used scissors - you can also get closer to the skin without fear of cutting...

    Sexing Guinea pigs

As other's have said - both look like boys :) As they are boys there are a few things you will need to do that you wouldn't have to if they were female: - regularly check their bits and if necessary remove/clean them - hay/shavings are the biggest culprits (just be sure you know what you are...

    Arghhhhh season time.

lol i wouldn't be too sure of that - i'd never ever seen any of my sows mount' one another till they were bonded with the late Dappy (RIP) - then all hell broke loose - my one sow Summer used to mount Dappy and any other sow that got in her way - in fact she's was in season today and Hannah was...

Suspected abcess under chin - worried

If the vet had advised 'picking' the scab off each day you'll be left with an open wound - so keeping it clean is vital, using the syringe to get a salt/water into the wound will help it heal, get rid of any gunk inside and will keep it nice and clean. :) good luck

Suspected abcess under chin - worried

Ive just dealt with a huge abscess in one of my boys - this down to the neutering op he had, he was on baytril and we were told to monitor it's size, and return in 4 days if no change - on the 4th day i thought it had grown to almost twice the size, was just about to call the vets, carried him...

    R6 Paris Rabbit Indoor Cage

ive got two of these cages joined together that currently houses 5 girls - the way i joined the two cages was to remove the side panel from each cage and then join/butt the two wire platforms together - this makes one long center second tier with a ladder each side for access to both cages...

Anyone with experience of Corneal Ulcers?

Two of my sows have had hay pokes to the eye and in both cases the eyes have healed fully and they've had no further issues. I found that the eye looked much worse in the first couple of days of applying the eye ointment (my one sow had to have two different eye drops applied three times per...

    Polyp in the eye

My sow had a polyp in her ear - quite rare in guinea pigs (or so i was told at the time - they are frequently seen in cats/dogs) - her's was quite a large op only because the initial vets that were treating it never wanted to do anymore than keep prescribing baytril. Once she'd been on baytril...

    Considering vetbed but not sure...

Gosh no, if i had to wash each of my fleece blankets 3-4 times at every clean out it would not only be very time consuming, but it would also cost a small fortune in washing power/electricity!! The washing 3-4 times is only your initial multiple wash time to prepare the fleece for using in...

    Considering vetbed but not sure...

I use both fleece and vetbed combinations in my cages - but instead of towels (as you need 2-3 layers per cage and this dramatically increases washing loads) i use washable bed pads in some cages and and cotton mattress toppers in others. To clarify - with fleece you only have to wash fleece...
