    Grieving Pig?

Just to update. Matilda is virtually back to her normal self! I took the advice from here and syringe fed her mushed up nuggets and water. Since then it seems like her appetite is back with a vengeance and she roaming around her cage rather than sitting pitiful in the corner. Thank you so much...

    Rip Monty

Here is Monty, the pig who was the life long friend of Matilda (who I have asking for advice about because she is grieving in the health and illness section). He was about 7yrs old when he passed in his sleep, he was a rescue from Freshfields animal rescue centre in Formby and he was a joy to...

    Grieving Pig?

Thanks for the advice. She seems how she was prior to his death, no dramatic weight loss, bloating. I rang the vet and they felt that because she is nibbling its best to observe her because it'll stress her more bringing her in. They did say if she stops passing anything then bring her in...

    Grieving Pig?

Hi. Thanks for the comments. I don't think she is pooing, i held her last night and she felt wet underneath so I know she passing urine but I didn't notice any poo's. Also, she was acting strange last night, like she was trying to lay down but kept getting back up, she was constantly doing...

    Grieving Pig?

Yes, she ate her nuggets from my hand last night, only a few though and a rose leaf. I put a lavender leaf in because I know she likes them and she nibbled on that before. Her breathing seems fine and she was her usual self up until his death yesterday. My boyfriend said she could be in shock...

    Too Good To Be True?

I have the ferplast cage, two next to each other and made a loft out of two cc squares and used tie wraps to surcure them to the sides. I then got a bird cage ladder, added a bit of carpet and hooked that into the cc square. The bottom of it rested on the den that came with the cage.

    Grieving Pig?

Hi I lost my male boar yesterday who was approx 6/7 yrs old due to old age. He had a friend, Matilda who I got as company for him when she was 6 months old. Since he passed away, which was by her side, both sleeping, she hasn't been the same. She has hid in the corner, barely eating and most...

    Getting a second guinea pig

Hi. I introduced a total 3 pigs to an existing herd of 3 over the years. I'm not sure where I got the tip from, it may have been here but I rubbed lavender from my plant onto each pig so they all smelt the same. I never had any bother or trouble when introducing, I did introduce them in the...

    Food loft

I used a c+c square for the loft held to the side with tie raps. The ladder is a bird cage ladder from jollies, I them put carpet underneath and some sides on the ladder. I lined the c+c with fleece and they are always up there. I'm making another for their other cage. Hope this helps?

anyone had to deal with aggressive dogs?

I've read your thread because I have a dog similar to yours, again he is a rescue and was told if he was any bigger he'd have been pts ( he's a chihuahua). I have been to hospital twice now and dealt with the minor bites myself that don't require antibiotics or debribing. He is very protective...

    Dog run as pig house?

I have four cats and they don't bother with mine when they are out, but I wouldnt recommend it to others. I'd say that pen looks fine but some others might come up with something different. Good luck x

    Introducing piggies to each other

I have introduced in the past 2 years to my trio a older female ( who sadly passed away) and then another older female pig and earlier last year a lone boar. I may have just been lucky but each time I cleaned their space and made sure they were all in the run. I then rubbed them all down with...

Those of you who use fleece bedding

I've just moved onto fleece after seeing how nice the cages look. I've picked up lots of poop already but it still feels dry after2 days. I used to clean it out every other day with paper and hay so maybe I'll get an extra day of not cleaning. I've got mum onto sowing the towels to the fleece...

    Outdoor run problem

I have four cats of my own plus guinea pigs, my own cats toilet in the garden so I have had to build the run around the whole of the grass section. Some of the neighbours have put up trellis to stop them getting into their gardens but I have noticed one of mine climbing through it! I love my...

piggy hutch made out of a piece of furniture

Hi, I think that's an excellent idea, I am currently in the process of converting a piece of furniture ( a cupboard from a charity shop) into a cat litter house to keep the litter tray out of sight, I am just cutting a hole in side and I can open the door to get in and clean. I will be painting...

    Shredded Paper?

I use it all the time, its cheap and environmentalily friendly, just chuck the lot in my recycle bin when i change them. I just make sure I have plenty of underlay. I also use hay, but yes it does flatten but if you have enough you can top it over each day.

    Joining hutch to a run

I know exactly how to do this as I have my run attached to the hutch. I asked some kind road workers if I could have some there piping which, they kindly sawed me a huge piece off! You often see this stuff at buidling sites and its used underground for plumbing. Best thing is it bends! And if...

    Guinea pig ramp problems

I have seen long flat cat scratching boards in Asda pet food isle, maybe you could put that up the ramp? or if you have a handy man in the house, (or lady shouldnt be sexist) then it could be cut to size maybe? I have just made my own ramp out of a large bird ladder and put the carpet on the...

    Moving outside

Hi All When would be the best time to move the piggies back outside? I'm hoping the grass will grow as it got slightly runined by the frost before I take them out. I was thinking round March time or does anyone move them out earlier? thanks :)
