What's this on Dodge's foot - spurs?

Had the guineas out today for a massive grooming session, they all look even more gorgeous now! While doing my usual checks, I found these rather odd things on Dodge's front feet





His feet aren't swollen or red and he was running about and popcorning no bother, so pretty sure it isn't Bumblefoot. I think they could be spurs...if so can I carefully trim them off?

I bathed them with diluted hibiscrub just in case they were anything nasty, but obviously vets aren't open til at least Monday so can't take him til after then

Yes, they are footspurs. You can trim them but not too close to the skin. x

I would like to say that is a very good camera you have there though. One of my piggies has spurs.

About roughly 1/4 to 1/3 of all guinea pigs develop spurs, so it's nothing to worry about.

These are normal. Two of our 4 guinea pigs have it.

If you bathe feet in any antiseptic solution (you don't need to do this in your case), I'd apply veterinary cream of some sort, because antiseptics dry skin out a lot.

Eliza has one of those on her foot but it has gone black. The vet has said they will remove it if it causes he problems but she if fine

Thank you all very much, sorry I didn't reply yesterday, was only able to sneak in a quick read between opening presents and eating food

I will give them a little trim very carefully, Dodge is a good boy and tends to sit still if you give him something to chew on to keep him busy thank goodness.

I would like to say that is a very good camera you have there though. One of my piggies has spurs.

Thank you, I love it, it's a Canon Powershot A1100IS, it's perfect for me as I mostly shoot animals and needed something with a quick shutter speed and good results with the flash off - and it's fantastic. Just a handheld digital but you can adjust a lot of the settings manually, enabling you to get lovely close up shots of guinea pig's bizarre foot problems and the like!

Thanks Piggyologist, I had the hibi over from Bumble's abcess/horse stuff and only ever use a very weak solution on the guineas, but good to know about keeping their skin moist

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I noticed what I *think* is a spur on Willow's front foot this evening. It's not a large as Dodge's growth, but looks quite similar so I'm guessing a spur too.

Would it be recommended to trim it back or shall I leave her be? She let me touch it at first (as I thought it was just dirt stuck to her foot) but she changed her mind when I tried to pull a little too hard

If it isn't causing any problems, I would just leave it as that is what I'm doing with Eliza but it's up to you xx
