Hello and welcome to the forum.
Well done for doing your research. Please do have a good read of the threads that have been linked. They are full of very helpful advice and photos. And our members are always happy to answer questions. If you are planning to keep outdoor piggies please do pay...
Welcome to the forum
Housing - For outdoor piggies you need a good, sturdy, solid hutch (ideally not made of plywood). A hutch needs to be 5 foot for a pair of sows or 6 foot for a pair of boars.
You would also need a good study run for supervised run time.
It’s not necessarily a case of age...
Could you give us a bit more information please
Is the cabin insulated?
Are they in hutches inside the cabin?
Are the hutches insulated, including thermal covers, blankets etc?
Do they all have snugglesafe heatpads inside their cages?
Are they all fully bedded on hay?
Do you have a thermometer...
:wel:
How old are they?
Have they always been in the garage?
Do you have a thermometer on the hutch?
They should be fine.
Keeping them outdoors/in a shed etc does take more work but is very possible to keep them
Perfectly safe. Being in an outbuilding of any sort goes along way to helping in...
As any vet will tell you, they are happier seeing any pet too soon rather than too late. And so are we. :)
We can only go by your own words and the tone of your message but without direct access to your piggy to break through that filter - that is the big drawback we have online. What you...
Thank you that’s so helpful!

Yes exactly that - I put them in and out when I am there to supervise their lawn time and to ensure the temperature remains suitable etc
However any grass time needs to be built up slowly so you can’t put them...

Any piggies who have been indoors up until now cannot go out until April/May time.
After that they need to be acclimatised slowly - outdoors during the day but still coming in at night until nighttime’s are warmer.
They can then stay out year round. However come September/October time...
My two boars were removed from each other due to an abscess removal on the younger one (Remi) that was having issues with swelling/fluid. I separated them as I could not allow his cagemate (Reggie) to continually push under his neck.
This Sunday I decided to try bond them together again in a...
I have 32 piggies and I am trying to work out the most cost effective way to feed them all....
They are outdoor piggies in a very warm climate, we are entering into summer and our grass is already all used up for the season and we are entering into a drought so grass is currently off the menu...
Space wise I wouldn't count the run. They won't have access 24/7 and they won't be able to have access in colder weather either so realistically you are looking at the same space for them.
A lot of it depends what you want from your piggies and what you can provide them. It can be difficult to...
Thankyou so much for yiur reply and advise. I'm a member of guinea pigs uk on Facebook so I knew as soon as she said about boars living in more than 2s that she didn't have at least a full clue which i know in pet shops of big chain's thst they dint always.
I have 4 boys in sepret 2 tier c&c...
Unfortunately, I don't have a rescue nearby I'm in the country. The nearest pet store (that sells guinea pigs) is a half a hour drive away.
Are you sure he won't be warm enough in the shed? Not even with the heatpads? The shed is like an outdoor bedroom, with carpet on the floor and everything.
3 Infections of the Urinary Tract
Problems in the urinary tract usually come with very similar symptoms and are therefore not necessarily as easy or – these days as cheaply – to diagnose.
Squeaking, arcing or grunting when peeing, red pees and general signs of discomfort can apply to both...
My piggies live in our spare bedroom and it’s the warmest room in the house.
However, like everyone, we’re concerned about rising energy costs so are trying to leave it for as long as possible before putting the heating on.
Hub has suggested that we don’t have the heating on overnight or too...
Oh gosh! I made an error, not 1/2 cup timothy grass pellets, it's 1/4 cup. Although everyone seems to agree this is still too much! It is literally pelletised grass and the company advises that it can be feed in unlimited amounts - it's not like oxbow pellets or similar. It has no other...
Thank you, really. They are together all the time in the outdoor cage, where they have way more space to run around and move away if they bother each other. Over night (indoor cage), I was scared to let them sleep together, as I might not hear if they got into a fight. This morning I left them...
Yes exactly that - I put them in and out when I am there to supervise their lawn time and to ensure the temperature remains suitable etc
However any grass time needs to be built up slowly so you can’t put them out for long to begin with anyway as too much grass on unprepared tummies can make...
Boar herds can work in larger numbers (yours is at the smaller end but possible), but you need to have a plan B in case it doesn't work out. Please sprinkle feed (rather than using bowls) to minimise food access dominance or have the bowls over a body length away from each other and have ideally...
I get ings hay from hay and straw. Mine are outdoorpigs though and this is lovely long strands that cause wonderful burrows for them to help keep them nice and warm
They live outdoors in a hutch, i can't bring them indoors due to landlord. I'm go
I was going to and I know it’s not big enough with the indoor area but then my parents (my parents help with money as since the pandemic I lost my job and haven’t got a new job yet) don’t see the point of...
