Hi all
My piggies live indoors in our living room but the flat does get very cold- the heating doesn’t work well anyway and I have a bit of PTSD from the neighbours heater blowing up and starting a fire a couple years back so we tend to just wrap ourselves up.
We have dehumidifiers stocked up...

Covering the cage with a blanket is certainly one we would suggest!
Others are to fill hides or cardboard boxes with lots of soft hay for them to snuggle into.
Also, snugglesafe heatpads are very good - you heat them up in a microwave and they then stay warm for up to 10...

As outdoor piggies they need hay everywhere in the hutch for warmth. You can push the hay and shavings to one side if you’re opening the ramp but I would still recommend it is used. It’s still too cold for them while temperatures are below 15 degrees.
(Personally, it is...

You will not be able to put them completely outside given they are indoor piggies.
If the garage is warm and closer to indoor temperatures then the garage is fine.
You can start to transition them outside from April/May when temperatures are warmer by putting them out in...
The issue with Straw is that it isn’t edible and can also be really rather sharp so risks quite nasty poke injuries.
Blank paper is just absorbency (and I don’t even know how well that kind of paper would absorb) rather than any warmth.
If they are indoor piggies, then lots of soft hay...
Can you order microwaveable heat pads?
Otherwise a cardboard box stuffed (but not solid) with soft hay makes a nicely insulated den; you can slip a heat pad underneath.

Hello all,
I'm not often around here these days but i was changing my pigs' bedding today and I just thought i should share my brilliant find.
For any of you that use Hello Fresh or are thinking about giving it a try - the packing stuff they use on their chilled products is PERFECT.

Please make sure that your piggies are warm and safe as the coming nights are going to be rather a shock to the system after an unusually warm autumn.

Hello, new to guinea pig care post 1980's and wondering if anyone can help. My ten year old son has his heart set on a guinea pig (now two for companions) or possibly a hamster. I've always liked GPs and think their temperament is much better suited to my son, but it's not the 80's anymore and I...
I was saying winter because we normally use fleece for bedding but during the winter is hard to wash them as I can't use the hose to spray them down I was wondering if straw would work temporary for bedding

I am very sorry. You may want to step in with formula feeding support since it could be either temperature or health related if your piggy is not able to hold their own weight...

Mine live outside in my shed also.
I have insulated all walls, floor and ceiling of my shed with silver foil insulation, which helps a lot
They have silver foil insulation, blankets and old duvets put over their cages (when they were in hutches they also had a thermal...
I have 2 girl pigs and 2 boy pigs (separate hutches) who live outside in hutches, they’re hutches are inside a polytunnel to protect from the rain and help with the heat a bit, they also have a quilt over the top of the hutch and draped down the back and then a lot of straw and hay in the hides...
Apollo enjoyed both indoor and outdoor living. You'd often find him lay in a sunny spot and even during the week leading up for his final day he'd fall asleep on me in a snuggle sack in the sun.
After Jupiter's sudden departure Po was quiet. But after a week or so he got back to his old self...
I'm sorry to hear your situation so complicated, and I hope the council can find a suitable solution for you.
I wouldn't worry too much about the piggies, but it might be something worth discussing with the vet when you next see them. This guide (particularly at the bottom) has some practical...
Hello everyone
My family and I are moving house and trying to find a house with our needs that can fit Guinea pigs properly may be a challenge (though we are still looking but Canada housing market is 😭). My parents refuse to let me have them in my room so I’m wondering if it’s possible to...
Does anyone know if guinea pigs can still move outside in August/September (and then stay outside in winter)? I read somewhere that they should move outdoors in Spring only, so that they get used to living outside and can develop thicker fur for winter.
I'm looking to rehome one of my piggies...
Another six weeks time before the girls go outside for the first time is definitely too late - that is mid October (the time at which winter prep arrangements kicking in for permanent outdoor piggies and part time outdoor piggies will have moved back inside for winter).
It’s the night time...
