    Cage discussion

My piggies live in my shed, but I have two spare cages (for when they need to come in if it is too hot/cold) - one is a c&c but the other is the ferplast plaza 160 - it is a really lovely cage and offers such a lot of space. The base isnt as deep as other commercial cages, but is still plenty...

    Paper bedding types

...small pet select paper bedding and get the jumbo bag which lasts us quite a while. Nice and soft and definitely dust free. Before that I tried fitch, which I really wasn't a fan of. It's like clumps of tissues which have been through the washing machine! The pigs didn't have a problem with...

    Wood shavings!

Thank you for your replies. I will look at both Fitch paper and Aspen bedding, if Abigail and Rosie like it better I will definitely switch to one of these.

Bedding For Guinea Pigs - Overview

I am considering moving to fleeces. Currently using Fitch but each time we clean the cage there is so much waste that I have to dispose of, and each time we open the cage I have to clean the floor :hmm:. Our bins are collected every 3 weeks and we are only allowed 1 bag per week which is...

    URI - sneezing

...and is treating it as a URI (early stages), as nothing else has changed in their environment. They’re kept on vet bed, with a litter box of Fitch and piles of hay. Having said that, we have only had them just over 2 weeks! So far they’ve taken the Baytril well, though I expect that to change...

Thanks, off with the measuring tape I go! Also, how does your cage look? is it one of the nicer looking cages - i see it doesn't have the deep base other cages would have. Is that an issue if I were to use fitch bedding?

    Wood shavings

P@H told me a couple of weeks ago that they had recalled all their wood shaving but the assistant was unsure why. I ordered some Fitch, so I hope Abigail and Rosie will be happy with that. 🙂

Guinea pig poop smells really bad

I kept fleece best when I had a hay loft lined with newspaper and fitch bedding with hay on top and a fabric cover. Then they'd do all their wees and poos in there and the fleece would last longer.

    Is this normal?

It didn’t look red to me, but I’ve changed the bedding over to Fitch so I’m sure I will notice any blood hopefully.

Piggy mysteriously terrified of random parts of cage.

...the the last week or so and it's starting to really concern me. We did change all their bedding to snowflake softchip around the same time, as fitch has been sold out and another bedding type we tried (egg box cutoffs) smelled damp and awful so we didn't use it and we had to use softchip as a...

Dust Free bedding for guinea pig with sensitivity

...isn’t an option for us unfortunately as i’m away every other weekend and my mum won’t want to poo pick. What are some options i have for very dust free bedding? I tried fitch a few years ago but i’m not keen to try again as i think it gave one of my guineas a uti. not keen on megazorb either.

    Fitch First paper bedding?

...after (aubiose, teabag paper bedding, other brands of paper bedding) but the only thing that worked okay for me considering the price is shredded egg box. Although I completely changed everything to fleece at the start of the pandemic when the tip closed. This was in 2018 when I was using Fitch.

Boyfriend allergic to GPs (difficulty breathing)

Thanks everyone for your advice! Just wanted to pick up on a few things being mentioned.. Bedding - I use fleece bedding and Fitch paper bedding for ‘kitchen’ areas. Hay - I’ve switched to Hay Box meadow hay but he’s still been having issues. Cleaning - I use white vinegar spray to clean...

...so really the base is too deep as the piggies can't see out without standing up on the bars. This wouldn't be a problem with a deep layer of Fitch or shavings. I built a loft in mine so they can sit up there to see out easily. When I bought my cage 6 years ago I didn't see the Ferplast's I...

Ways to keep a piggy with limited mobility dry

Hi , you could try fitch, I used it for the first time last week, because my guinea was wet sitting in the same place, now she's completely dry and no smell, I wish I would have started using it years ago.
