    Fitch Bedding It Is!

Well, I just ordered 20kg of fitch bedding as a replacement for the shavings. I have tried it for a few days and it looks great. I only bought 2kg to try out a few days ago and when I cleaned the cage yesterday and put on shavings, only after 10 mins of piggies in the cage, they throw the...

    Waste Bedding Disposal

Our used bedding (Fitch, hay and poops) goes in the garden waste bin which is emptied weekly and the soiled newspaper goes in the normal bin which is only emptied every three weeks.. Still not sure why our Council will take the Fitch paper bedding in the garden waste bin but not the soiled...

...or something similar for both pairs to replace cardboard box. I'll post my set up below. Also disposable paper/cellulose bedding (megazorb, fitch). Are these ok to use in cooler months? Or should I ideally mix with something like aubiose or woodshavings to keep the top layer drier? (Yes...

    Smelly fleece

I line my plastic hay trays with newspaper then some of that egg carton bedding (used to used Fitch but the price went up ) this is proving to be a good alternative.. then hay on top... this gets changed once a day (used to do it twice a day but now i have to have 2 hay trays i just do it once).

    Fur disappearing on belly

...won't work with a watering issue as it is not very absorbent and will quickly turn the hay in a soggy mess. You need an absorbent layer like fitch or even wood chippings between the newspaper and the hay so the hay on top stays dry. The newspaper (2-3 layers of sheets) comes in handy for...

Where do you buy your Fitch?

UP-DATE - I purchased a bag of that Egg Tray stuff and its actually good! (I only use it in the bottom of the hay tray not in the c&c cage). Quite soft - i thought it might be a bit hard but it's not ... and a lot cheaper than fitch ( which i did love but the price was getting silly )...

    Just a coincidence?

...that the greener hay is richer and i also wonder if it contains more moisture the other hay. I use paper bedding and fleece. I have fleece in the main part of the cage and Fitch paper bedding in the haylofts. I find this works really well as i can scoop out the damp areas of Fitch and...

    How do you scoop poop

I am so glad you said that I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who pooped scooped by hand I find it so much quicker and easier.

New Supplier for Shredded Paper Bedding

I pick up Fitch from their store. It's much, much cheaper than online, but more like £10 rather than £6.

New Supplier for Shredded Paper Bedding

Fitch are out of large bags of bedding again. Although I could have smaller bags for almost twice the price. I really do wonder if they are just trying it on to see if I will pay more for it.

Those of you that have a hay box...

I use Fitch under the hay. It's recycled paper bedding and very soft and absorbent. It is wasteful, as I change it every few days, but I have changed to fleece from Fitch throughout the cage, so it's less waste over all.

    Fleece

I'm about to change over to a wooden cage and was going to put a vinyl flooring in it and a thick layer of Fitch or Carefresh on top of that.(I didn't really want to go down the fleece route.)Would that work ?

    Show us your hay racks/feeders

I have a 1x2 hay loft, lined with newspaper and a layer of fitch bedding. It's meant to keep the hay off the fleece but still gets everywhere. But the pigs like it.

    Fitch bedding out of stock?

I'm just currently using kaytee while there's no fitch bedding. It's almost the same as fitch.

    Is this bedding okay?

...it’s dust extracted cardboard shavings and you can get it in 15kg bags. It was recommended by the rescue we have adopted from. I’ve also tried Fitch and megazorb but didn’t get on with either - the megazorb smell was awful and made the entire family feel sick so that was the end of that...
