    Stuffed toys for boars

Thank you, i will give them a few days of observation in their cage and see how we go. They do make good use of the upper level, not sure i have space to extend lengthways but i could potentially make it two large levels, the ramp is very long and low and they trot up and down all day.

    First night

Yes it’s normal for a new piggy to do this. Also consider that guinea pigs aren’t natural climbers and some won’t use ramps. Single storey living spaces are their preference.

How to help new piggies scared of own cage

Okay, thanks for the advice. They're two long-haired girls, 10 months old. They were used to being handled by their previous owner so I didn't want to let that slide, is it better to stop the handling or keep it up? I'd read mixed advice about this online, with some places saying to start after...

    C&c cage and floor time

I have my boars in a 5x2 on the floor in my apartment in the large dining/tv room. I have a pet gate that I use to block off the rest of the apartment because they could fit in between the laundry machines and the wall and some other not great places to be. I've pig-proofed it, so there aren't...

    Ramps

Yes it would be a good idea to add a grippy surface to it - carpet, vetbed, fleece tunnels etc can all be used. Also ensure the ramp isn’t too steep. Ramps in Cages

    Welcome, Belinda & Ruby

This year has been a terrible year for losses - I had quite an elderly herd and sadly lost my ‘Golden Girls’ earlier this year; more recently, I lost my baby Dusty, who was only 2 years old. I’m now pleased to have some happy news - I adopted two new rescue girls at the weekend ☺️ They were...

    Is this house suitable?

Welcome to the forum. It looks to be fine but it is likely to get chewed and possibly urine soaked at the bottom (it does say they recommend you get their product to seal it) so depending on your feelings about it, you may want to buy cheaper wooden houses which can be more readily replaced...

    Kavee upper level…

I've had piggies who love them and some who don't. I've stopped using them now. 2 of my older boys have arthritis in their spines and a vet has suggested ramps don't help spine health. I've not had full height ones I only ever made them half grid height.

    Bonding help

The only problem I'm having is at night time i shut them upstairs and close the ramp . And my old 2 used to both go in the bed area to keep warm etc (especially in winter) . Irs basically just full of hay go get comfy into . However, the new piggy keeps chasing my orignial piggy out whoch is very...

What cage and run and can babies go outside?

Some piggies will, some wont. You would need to line the ramp for grip, ensure sides are added (they won’t use it if they feel exposed) and ensure the ramp isn’t too steep. You do not need a double storey hutch though. Piggies are ground roaming creatures who need their living space to be...

Piggies can’t get grip on ramp

I attached vetbed to my hutch ramp when it was in use. Using sticky velcro on the ramp and on the back of vetbed/carpet etc means it can easily be removed for any required washing.

Is a 3x3 provide the same space as a 4x2?

You weren't likely to get it right as I got it wrong! The sun came out again while I was cleaning them out so I got some photos. Duck doesn't use his loft so I have taken the ramp away, it's easier to clean the cage without. Bertie loves his loft and does zoomies along the 4 grid length. I...

Changing Setup With A Partially Sighted Piggie

Hi I've had a number of piggies going blind with cataracts or with reduced sight after a major eye injury. All I ever did was to lower the angle of a ramp and use a strongly scent retaining material (carpet offcut) for the scent spoor to follow. I never had an accident. I've even had a blind...

    Favorite Guinea Pig Toy

Toilet roll tubes remain untouched - makes no difference what hay I use to stuff them. Even cardboard boxes last longer now. Bert loves his carrot house although he now needs a ramp to get on top. For Hutchie it’s a huge pile of hay.

    2nd floor.

That’s great, they are settling so well. Some piggies love ramps others hate them. My Bill and Ted used to love racing up and down their ramp, it all depends on character

    Need help potty training piggies

When we had George and Tim we put the hay tray where they were pooping when out of the cage and both decided it was the place to do it. When we got Boris it looked like George trained him to go there as when he pooped anywhere else he got grumbled and squeaked at.you're right, it's hilarious...

    Bridge for a second floor

:agr: I also used 2 overlapping C&C grids in the same way as @piggieminder. I lined the ramp with correx that also went up the sides then had a fleece ramp liner over that. The correx liner had ‘wings’ at the top which i used to attach to the correx in the loft with cable ties and gorilla tape...

    How to dress the hutch

That’s sounds much better. I did wonder if the one you had wasn’t appropriate from the description you gave of it. It’s only the bottom level of the hutch which counts towards the cage size (and as it’s 6ft it’s perfect for a sow pair). Piggies are not natural climbers and need time to learn...

    Ophelia

Betsie seemed calm and stolid when she came to us, lying down in the open. However, she remained in hiding under a pile of hay when I gave them breakfast this morning — even with coriander under her nose, which she had seemed very happy about yesterday (even after the failed bonding). So, she’s...
