I hate it when the slaves get funny about stuff like that, they claim to have no sense of smell. We smell wonderfully boarish 🙂

    100% hay pellets

...hutch pellets don’t contain anything other than hay! The selective naturals pellets themselves can be considered treats and thrown into hay as forage. I only give mine 5 pellets each on a Wednesday and another 5 on a Sunday - so they are their treats. It would just be a personal choice thing...

Calcium Queries - What Am I Doing Wrong?!

...of it than the same weight of kale, the veg highest in calcium). I would not remove pellets altogether but you can replace part of them with forage - fresh or dry. It is worth trying to think in terms of diet that there are basically only three food groups: - water - grass fibre (hay and...

    Stripe and Chesney

...I said a little prayer they wouldn't ask for cookies, so far so good. They are distracted by their veggie breakfast, pellets for Stripe and forage for Chez. Last day off, let's make it a good one. One appointment, gotta clean the house and the vacuum is back. Repairman said clogged with hay...

    Shimmer and Saffron

Hay trays are to give separate areas for them to forage in. Also I line them with newspaper and that makes them super easy to clean out. I have a hay tray end (over half the cage) and a smooth absorbent liner then a little fleecy end where they have the ikea dolls bed and absorbent fleece pads...

...getting a package: science selective urinary cookies. Mom hopes we like them as a treat and they have glucosamine, dandelion and cranberry. If we like them she's going to pack them in our bag for the boarders. If my pee keeps improving I'll get forage once a week. Coriander gives me soft stool.

    Suggestions and Comments

...being able to see the pictures at the moment, the comment I can make is that I would not use bowls or plates at all. Just throw veg and pellets directly into hay piles or loose on the cage floor so they have to forage for their food. It is better enrichment than eating from a plate or bowl

    Inactive pigs

Piggies are crepuscular so are more active during early morning and evening. They will tend to lounge around more during the day. Activity for piggies is rather a lot about mental stimulation. Not toys as such (as most commercial toys are ignored) but foraging. I see you have hay trays...

    Calcium balance

Stripe eats a tablespoon of pellets a day but Chesney doesn't like pellets. The boys get forage twice a week and a small handful of wheatgrass twice a week. Since Chesney doesn't eat pellets should I increase his calcium veg? Are they getting enough calcium, too much? Keep reading on here...

Guinea pig not eating and lethargic

Is she still on pain meds? Definitely keep going with syringe feeding. It’s possible. We recommend scattering their veg (and pellets) around the whole cage and not using bowls. This serves two purposes: It means that both pigs get opportunity to get their share. If one pig eats faster...

...moving it out of the corner.i have to put it back in place to catch the water drips. Chez is at his regular nap time. The only calcium they had was forage once so they each got 3 sprigs of parsley because not enough calcium is bad too. Chez is back to peeing on the coroplast much to my chagrin.

    Readigrass

Readigrass is fine to give as a small handful sprinkled into their normal hay for then to forage for.
