    New finding for Stripe

Poor boy! It's looking positive. Perhaps after a week he will come out and graze again. It's great that he's not whimpering, it must mean he's much more comfortable although he may be tired.

Devastated - Guinea Pig Heatstroke death

I think keeping animals must be facing challenges in Britain. Farming for wool, people who keep lamas, alpacas, chickens, racing pigeons, rabbits, animals that you can't wet or keep under air conditioning that need to go out and graze need extra care now I would think 🙁

Guinea pig's head is slightly lopsided, lump under chin

Yes, we're definitely going in the morning regardless, was just hoping to get some reassurance that she didn't need to be seen to in the next hour or so! I slept at 3 and when I woke up at 5 she was in the same spot, but she may well have moved and gone back in the meantime. I got out some more...

    Stripe and Chesney

I'm so excited! After Stripe's third feeding just now he didn't run into his hide right away and stayed out and grazed for 8 minutes! He even looked next door for Chez for the first time! I think this is progress.

    Skeletal and teeth issues

I wanted to update my post; we very sadly had to let Blackberry go on Wednesday. She had a number of problems, likely genetic, but it was the rate her teeth were over growing that we couldn't keep on top of. We tried twice, but in just short of 3 months, she'd only been able to graze normally...

    Too Much/Little?

Guinea pigs need to constantly keep their gut moving by grazing on hay throughout the day. But they don't know not too keep eating veg all day. So they don't stop, they'll always want food from you because it's just in their nature to constantly eat to keep their teeth down and their gut moving...

I don't know what to do

Hi all, This is about my herd 2, Honey soy (neutered boy) And his 3 lady friends, jaffal, Pepsi and skittles. They have all been bonded for about 4 months+ now, I haven't previously noticed any arguments between them, the occasional chase/ give me some space grumble but I haven't seen/ heard...

    Wet and Swollen bottom

Reading that follow up thread, I think I am going to cut down on the pellets even more now it is the summer and they will be on grass daily. I am feeding a cup of veg a day per pig (Cucumber, Romaine or Mixed lettuce leaves, pepper) and they get a handful of grass a day now. Mowed the lawn this...

    Eriathwens piggies

She is happily leading her small herd into the pastures to graze in the sun. She lived joyously and passed with a full tummy in the warmth of your care. She lived to enjoy the summer once more and to delight us.

Grain free, soy free, molasses free, and bad ingredients free

I would love this, but I live in an apartment,... I will start growing grass in trays, my boyfriend will kill me, our entire apartment is full of GP stuff now😂

Guinea pig rolling over and not eating much at all.

One of our boys is acting very strange. He's constantly rolling on his side, as if he's in some kind of discomfort and he's rocking his head back and forth. He ate his breakfast no problem and has been grazing for most of the day. Only in the last few hours he has started this behaviour and...

GP showed signs of improvement but back to being lethargic

Yup, that unfortunately seems to be what's happening - 36 hours since her last dose and she's back to not grazing...

Guinea pig's head is slightly lopsided, lump under chin

I think she's pretty good now! She went in on Thursday to have it drained/flushed again, and the lump is looking (and has stayed) a lot smaller now. Teeth were confirmed to be completely fine, too. She's completely fine in herself (bothering her sisters, grazing normally, eating pellets...

    No Grass!

Ok, I think they do prefer grass but extra hay in their run, it will have to be. I think they get a bit bored of their hay all the time that's why they love getting fresh grass so much, but it can't really be helped at the minute. I also think they get bored in their run because it isn't...

Guinea pig's head is slightly lopsided, lump under chin

Hi You must be relieved that it is not a cancerous lump. However, has your vet told you that you need to flush it regularly to allow every little speck of infection to drain out? Abscesses heal from the inside out but any infection that is left in one of the pouches can cause it to come back...

GP showed signs of improvement but back to being lethargic

We've taken her out for a feed and while she still isn't interested in fresh hay (we got her Excel Timothy hay with dandelion and marigold), she's currently grazing on a hay block we have while between mouthfuls of syringe feeding which gives me some hope - is this a good sign?

    New Owner Shy Pigs

Some of it is fear, but also behaviour of young piggies. They may be waiting for a more senior pig to take the initiative and guide the herd to grazing. They should sort out who does this as they mature. I read somewhere that wild guinea pigs feed and every now and then routinely make a quick...

    My boar scratched his eye

If it’s a small graze I’d just keep a close eye on it. Can you post a photo so we can see how bad it is?

Do my guinea pigs even like each other?

Guinea pigs are grazing animals, and a lot of grazing animals are not very demonstrative with their herd mates, at least not by our standards. Think of a herd of cows. To our eyes they seem to just ignore each other, but that's because we are not attuned to the subtle body language. Their trust...

What noises send your piggies running for the hills?

Me walking into their room any time other than feed time sends them scooting even if I talk 😥. How do they know the difference? However if I bring in the hoover and clean they’ll sit there quite happily grazing.
