Adopting 2 piggies, would love some advice and help!

Hi all! I've come to this forum for some help as Reddit seems to not be giving me any atm! Also before I start I wish to inform you that I'm not the best at writing so this post will be in bullet points and straight to the point. First off some info on my situation; I live in the UK, i also live...

    Long Haired Guinea Pig Care

I keep my long haired boy trimmed all the time. Year round the hair around his sides and bottom is kept short so it doesn’t drag on the ground. They are on disposable bedding as they live in a shed so it’s important to keep bits of megazorb out of his hair! As they are In my shed, in winter...

    Texel Long Hair

My long haired piggie pepper has some texel in him (we think) I have found using a comb is better than a brush, a fairly wide tooth one will be best for him, although in the summer I cut peppers hair short which may be a good option for you and then you can get him used to brushing as it grows...

    Grooming

If it is now too matted to brush them out, then they will need to be cut out carefully (cutting the hair can at the skin if it is too tight also so you may need a vet nurse to help). I have a long haired boy and I make sure to keep the hair around his back end and legs always cut short and never...

    KaWheek Girls

Hello! I am Kay, currently the manager for five wonderful girls. I might as well post about them here since I always seem to have stories to share and things to discuss. I love them and have found a great deal of reward in looking after them, being their human, and learning about such amazing...

    Tia,

Long haired piggies need their hair to be kept in check with regular brushing and cutting. I have a long haired piggy and I cut his hair so none of it ever drags on the ground. He is brushed but he doesn’t really like it. I’m summer his hair is cut shorter all over so he doesn’t get hot

    Texel Long Hair

Haha, like shearing a sheep 😂😂 Yes, that was another option I was thinking of, just to cut it all and start over again!

    Long Haired Guinea Pig Care

I trim my long haired guinea pigs regularly. I dont brush them at all as they loathe it. Had to give one of my elderly rabbits a bum bath recently. She wasnt impressed but needs must. Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

    Brushing disaster

When I had longer-haired pigs, I used to go over them with a slicker brush that I got from the pet store (kind of a wide brush with far-apart, flexible teeth... if you look up 'slicker brush' you'll find some good examples.) It was enough to just keep their backs detangled. I did used to use...

    Long Haired Guinea Pig Care

I’m glad I’m not the only one! They hate brushing full stop. They squeal even when there’s not any tangles and it makes me jump 😂

    Brushing disaster

She’s beautiful! I have a long haired boy and I cut his hair around his back end regularly so it doesn’t get too matted and doesn’t drag on the floor. In summer he gets a full all over cut to keep him cool. I use a baby brush

    The importance of brushing

Poor piggies! They look much smarter and happier now. Luckily my 2 long haired piggies only need a brush and a trim every couple of weeks. Lion was slightly matted and unkempt when I got him, but now he’s in a cleaner and more spacious environment his hair never looks as crazy as it did before.

Hay mites on short haired Guinea

Hi, My sisters Guinea pig has a lot of hay mites in his hair, he was rescued from pets at home and we think he got them from there. I have a long haired Guinea pig that I treated for hay mites and his have all gone, my sister used the same treatment on hers (washed him, used Johnson’s spray and...

    Brushing disaster

Scissors and clippers don't pull on the hair the way a brush can do - or the memory of a bad brushing session... ;)

    The Pigglingtons

I will take some before and after photos when I do cut his hair. To start with I'm just going to brush it so he gets used to me handling his hair. I have already cut off his train at the back because it was dragging in the hay and poop, the sides aren't touching the ground yet. I did have a long...

    brush

hi ive had my female guinea pig for a few months now and about a month ago she went to the vet and got 3 jabs, all a week apart, to get rid of her mites. while she had the mites i brushed her hair with a comb i bought for her, would have the eggs transferred onto that? i need to brush through...

    Tia,

Your right Wiebke, it doesn’t matter. I was surprised they all took to the newbies, Teddy’s a nut spends his day popcorning. Zoe is far to pretty to popcorn. Back of her skirt must have increased quarter a inch since we have had her. Do long haired piggies just need brushing 24/7 or should l...

    Tia,

My Louise hates hates hates any form of brushing - I think she finds it painful because she cries and struggles. So I don't brush, but every couple of months when her hair gets too long she gets a serious clipper cut. She tolerates this pretty well as long as the clippers or guards don't...

    LITTER PROBLEM

Sure, I know it is dangerous for them to be in contact! My bunny (sterilized female ahah) is super territorial and she doesn't like other animals (not even other bunnies). Thank you very much for your suggestions, I will report them to my father and the other members of the family, and hope they...
