General question regarding hay intake monitoring

Yes you do. You don’t want them to be left with only the bits they deem not good enough/inedible. Mine get new hay twice a day regardless of what condition the remaining hay is in - they want to be able to forage through fresh hay and adding fresh hay usually sparks their excitement

    Forage

A small amount should be fine so don’t worry but I wouldn’t give it again I’m sure your piggies will love piggie parcels forage - mine certainly do!

...nice to see. If I had to judge by eye, Stripe eats more hay. Chez poops more, though Both have gained weight and Stripe is almost 100 grams heavier. Chez doesn't get pellets and Stripe gets a teaspoon. The boys get daily forage and marigold instead. I think their treats have calcium, too

Mom's home! We get floor time then forage. Her new bag method is really keeping our room clean! She buys bags instead of boxes and puts the bag in the cage when she puts hay She cancelled my exam. I can't be out in negative twenty degrees!

Chez did a mound of poo. If I had to judge by eye, Stripe eats more but does less poo. Both have stable weight. I'm going to crack open a bag of forage from small select at floor time.

I'm in their room now. I gave them some fresh hay and forage and Chez has a sheet up. I'm going to see if he'd like floor time but he doesn't really like it.

Sorry I forgot they have a pinch of forage in their hay pile in morning. And because button has not been having cucumber, I have been giving her about a centimetre of a really hard compressed Timothy hay stick which seems to like. I can feed it to her like I hand feed the cucumber to the other...

...check done. It would be worth checking the diet if she is having issues - ensuring you aren’t overfeeding anything high calcium. Pellets and forage count as one part of the diet so you want to make sure you aren’t overdoing things ie you may find for a bladder prone piggy that if you feed...

...of more concern at all then do step in. Best not to have specified food areas - scatter food all around the whole cage so they have to forage. It will mean the dominant cannot food hog (he can’t guard the whole cage at one time) but it also provides them with mental stimulation and...

And I only use one type of forage to make sure it is not the forage doing it to her (this particular one she has gone a week without soft poos on, not had any more time to try any...

    Painful Poops

Thanks for the support 😊 really appreciate it. Yes he is eating plenty of good quality hay, forage and his wet veg. He poops so much, which I'd normally be really happy about but it's clearly causing him pain. Keeping an eye on his weight as per your suggestion. Just hoping we can get his pain...

    Calcium balance

Stripe gets 10 pellets and Chesney doesn't like pellets. I've been giving a large pinch of forage most days as enrichment. It keeps them from being naughty. But since I've been doing that all their pees have had calcium. Should I only give forage twice a week? I'm afraid that's not enough...
