Treated timber for an outdoor run?

...need to use for safety has very small holes, you will possibly find the piggies find it quite hard to chew the wood (plus once in the run their focus is always grass!). None of mine have chewed runs but many a hutch has become a victim in my free roam sheds! I use cuprinol garden shades paint

    girls new home😊

Personally, I’d put a ramp. It’s quite a lot way up for them to jump - yes they can probably do it but as they age it wouldn’t be good for them As I say, I just covered a c&c grid with some vetbed but a bit of wood covered with an off cut it carpet would work Ramps in Cages and Hutches

    Outdoor housing - temporary

You will need a hutch for them. I note you have boys so you will need a 6ft hutch. You may be able to find one second hand but it still needs to be suitable (dry, secure etc), and have not recently housed rabbits. Will you only have them outside during actual viewings (ie their indoor cage...

    Hay holder

I have 2 hay trays in the hutch (where my piggies are during the night) at either end which are ferret litter trays. In the run (where they are all day) I just have a huge pile of hay which they love to hide in, make hay tunnels in and eat their way out, play in, poop in, wee in, tunnel...

    Bonding boys

...My sanctuary boy got quite aggressive and tried to take a bite out of Nyxs back. Fortunately he got a Rosette of hair instead. I have gave cleaned out a spare hutch and they will be near each other in the garage. I have a run with a divider so will run them parallel for a few days then try again

    Outdoor housing - temporary

Yes in that case you need a good secure hutch set up in a shaded location. You have to keep in mind that hutches get hotter than the air temperature suggests so have a thermometer in the hutch and keep a close eye. Unfortunately summer is a very difficult time to keep them outside but we have...

    Sudden Paralysis in Back Legs

I think there must be a link to the hutch they were kept in, especially if your female pig is OK. I think you mentioned the three boys were kept together in the same hutch? Could something have been left behind by a previous resident? Could they have accessed something toxic in there? Was...

Hutch inside a shed; what modifications are needed for ventilation?

This is our shed thread. Post #118 has a 6x4 shed with a 5ft hutch inside it. There is also another at #72 but that looks to be a 4ft hutch to me. Member Gallery: Sheds

    Guinea Pig Pellets

Give it a measure! Things like needing new two exit hides and extra resources are easy to over come but your fundamental issues, and those which a reputable rescue will be most likely to have issues with are the size and security of the hutch (and potentially the size of the run)

Anyone know any boarders in Poole/near Poole?

Thanks Emma but someone has just got back to me with availability for that week.

    Betsy's Guinea Pigs

Cuddle time with Saxon was a lot calmer this morning. I went back to Stage 1 which meant getting him out of the hutch using the cuddle sack express (he's used to going back into the hutch after a day out in the run in the cuddle sack express). He went quite happily into it this morning, we had...

    flooring in shed for run?

maybe i’m imagining wrong but i thought having a sheet of plastic thats not the whole width / length of the shed floor (literally just for the hutch and run to be on) the hutch could potentially break it or if i stood on it it would snap? i think corex would work better than a plastic sheet...

from indoor c&c to ‘summer house’ need some advice please x

They will be fine in a hutch in a shed, as long as you provide plenty of hay, heatpads and thermal covers in the hutch. While it isn’t ideal to move them out now in mid winter and it is going to be quite a bit of work, it is definitely doable.

    Betsy's Guinea Pigs

...Misty her meds. She (Sue) was clearly knowledgeable and knew that Bramble is a Texel (very impressed by that). Piggies settled in right away and were busy exploring their new surroundings and not hiding looking scared. The hutch is indoors in purpose built extension and must be about 8ft long.

    Sudden Paralysis in Back Legs

Thank you.. I agree. There’s definitely a link to that hutch that my 3 boys were in. Perhaps a rabbit infected with something was living in that hutch before my boys were there. I asked the boarder this but she didn’t give me a clear answer. In fact she’s given me no explanation since this...

    Outdoor living

...to have taken them from there. I have split their outdoor run in half with chicken wire and at night currently they are occupying a 2-storey hutch with one floor each while I work out the long-term solution. The kids are becoming attached to them, so I'm going to get set up for...

    Struggling with the Cold

This is an old thread, you might be better off starting your own one. FWIW, I used to have my 3 pigs in a hutch in an outbuilding. I had the proper insulated cover over the main part of the hutch, then the waterproof cover with clear screen at the front over that. I would have put any extra...
