Hi All, I have read the articles about Bonding and Dominance etc. and I am very grateful for the detailed information. I have also watched the video which was very helpful too.
I am planning to start with our Guinea Pig and our Neighbour's Guinea Pig in two separate hutches next to each other -...
Hi all
I'm going to move the boys outside soon. I've got a 5ft hutch second hand disinfected. I also got this lovely wooden hut as part of a bundle. I'm not sure whether to put the hut into the 'sleeping' compartment as not sure if more dominant boar will take it over and it takes up a lot of...
I've ordered the lice n easy. Got to order some xeno 450 and the F10. Luckily I have a large outdoor hutch then a smaller hutch in the run. So I am going to for now keep them in the smaller hutch in the run whilst I disinfect their larger one and then once the treatment arrives can move them...
I use fleece in 6ft two tier hutch outside. Housed in a shed.
Mine have never chewed it and not heard of other ppls pigs doing it either.
Mine hasn't ever gone mouldy and you don't need anything to hold it down. I've ordered some from ziggys piggies as they have been the best price and are well...
Looks great, what a bargain! I too have a hutch to renovate...does anyone know what is best to do re disinfecting it etc.? Was thinking hot soapy wash, jet wash and then veterinary disinfectant perhaps...would that be enough to get rid of any past bugs/ fungus etc.? Looking forward to seeing...
Hi! Please bring him inside and flush the wound 2-3 times gently with saline solution (1-2 teaspoons of salt mixed into 1 pint of boiled, cooled water) or any other mild disinfectant like hibiscrub. Ideally you keep the hole open for as long as possible (as close to 10 days or more) to allow...
Please have him seen promptly for an abscess; it needs draining and then flushing 2-3 daily with a mild disinfectant like saline or hibiscrub to allow it to heal from the inside out. He will also require an antibiotic.
How old is he?
I've never had to worry about second hand hutches as mine were custom built in a shed from new, I have heavy duty cushion flooring down to protect the wood, a large piece cost me £5 from my local carpet salesroom and that was enough to cover 2 floors. I just use Wilkos hutchdisinfectant one a...
For cleaning the hutch you'll want f10 disinfectant as it kills fungal spores as well. You can get it on Amazon for £10-12 with the spray bottle then going forward buy the concentrate for around the same price which should fill the bottle plenty of times over. I use non scratch scouring pads and...
If it's disinfected I can't see a problem, I'll tag someone who is a rabbit keeper. It's really nice to give it away there's someone who is desperate for a cage/hutch. @BossHogg
I have a wooden 6ft outdoor hutch very solid and good quality, which is not being used and I want to give it away / freecycle it.
I have not used it for guinea pigs for about 4 years as mine have somehow made their way indoors....
But it did house my neighbours two young rabbits whilst they...
My pair have a 6ft 2 tier hutch. It's in a shed. I've lined it with a PVC tablecloth, then I put newspaper down and use fleece on top. I spot clean twice a day and completely clean and disinfect the whole cage once a week. Changing the more soiled areas every few days.
Hi and welcome!
Please disinfect the bite wounds with hibiscrub or saline solution and keep an eye on them in the next few weeks for abscesses. Guinea pig mouths are anything by clean!
I am very sorry that you have been landed in this mess and are paying such a high price for it...
It does sound like Ringworm! Could you post any pictures?
Ringworm can be treated topically if caught early enough :) Do they live in a wooden hutch at all?
Make sure to disinfect everything, as spores can survive for a long time in the environment ( you could use Milton baby sterilising fluid...
I used ivermectin drops which I brought from eBay. You need to treat once a week for 2-3 weeks to ensure no more eggs have hatched. Any soft toys need to be boil washed and a thorough cage disinfect will be needed. I was recommended F10 and it's brilliant. I have a wooden hutch and scrubbed it...
