Hi and welcome
Great for doing your research beforehand; especially as the average healthy life span of guineapigs is 5-6 years but they can live longer.
In this world of changing climate, we either recommend indoors or an insulated shed. A hutch is not much fun to trudge out to in the rain...
It all comes down to character compatibility. Any on spec comes with risks of failure and of course you won’t know until you try.
Generally speaking, when adding piggies to an existing herd, you need to add in a way that will not upset the existing hierarchy - so a piggy younger than yours...
Hi and welcome back
I am so very sorry that you had ringworm carried and that is has pread to your piggies. Please make a complaint to the place you bought them from and also lodge a complain with your local council over trading standards. Ringworm affects human children usually worse than...
Hi wondering if anyone can shed some light on this. My guineapig has been doing this sort of chewing action for a while without actually eating anything, and wasnt closing his mouth. I could see there was some celery in his mouth that he hadn't swallowed so managed to get that out, and while...
I was hoping someone might have some advice on what could be wrong with my four year old female guineapig. I noticed some of her poos have been a bit sticky and have a point at the end. They are still formed but not as hard as usual. She has also lost a lot of weight (I weighed her today and...
I’ve added in canestan topical treatment too daily for Evie since it’s on her ears to try and get on top of it along with the oral meds! I’ll bath everyone this weekend and then fingers crossed she’s looking good in a week.
Definitely think that site is too good to be true, I will be leaving it 👍
We don't have space for a shed, we do have a wendy house for my daughter but it's on a high platform and would be almost impossible to keep clean as I'd be climbing up a ladder to get to it every day. As funny as that may...
Hi there, thanks for the reply!
Oh no! That's a bummer :( Thanks for letting me know. It was given to us so I just assumed by its size it would be more than big enough!
The entire downstairs area is approx 150x60 (only slightly smaller than the 180x60).
If I get some wood cut and boxed-in the...
Hi everyone, I might have to make some changes to my piggies current housing, they currently live in a shed which I'm hoping to keep doing but I may need to move them into a hutch. If that's the case can anyone recommend what size hutch I should be looking for and wheres good to get one from? I...
I have a guineapig was peeing first with some blood stains took him to the vet they did xrays no stones and was put on antibiotics. After that was perfectly fine for a couple of months and again the blood stains I started a strict balanced diet with mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and lots...
How you store hay is really just going to depend on your situation. For example, my hay is stored in the shed where my Guineapigs live. It is stored in the cardboard boxes. Never store it in plastic as that it will sweat and will go mouldy.
It will smell musty if it has gone mouldy .
Hi
Yawning can be both a sign of tiredness or a defensive 'stay away from me, or...' gesture. It is on the fear-aggression spectrum and usually made by the weaker piggy. It is not an aggressive gesture.

What you are describing is very normal - sometimes it just takes longer.
Try sitting by their cage and and just gently talking to them, offering food from your hand. They will get there but it can take longer for some piggies.
The guides below will help you with some...
Fleece is too warm? As opposed to what? All standard guineapig beddings are equally warm or warmer. A pig standing belly-deep in shavings is much more insulated than a pig standing on fleece, with air freely moving around its feet.
Pigs shed heat through their ears, so the crucial thing is the...
Welcome to the forum
First thing to note is that the piggies won’t be litter trained to any extent - they can’t be litter trained in the true meaning of it. They tend to pee where there is hay and pee while they are eating but it is not exclusive and they don’t always deliberately take...
Hello,
I am very new to owning guineapigs. We have had our two boars for a week now, they are both around 9 weeks old. We try to hold them when we can but not for too long because I want them to learn that we are not a threat and we will always put them back when they have had enough. Today I...
Hello, I am a long time lurker and first time poster. I believe I've correctly read through all the rules for posting and located the correct location to post this but please let me know if that is not the case and I will correct any issues.
I was prompted to start posting on forums after months...

Whether fleece is better than disposable bedding - it depends on your perspective and personal preference! You can only try and see which one you prefer!
My piggies live in my shed and due to that I use a disposable bedding but occasionally use fleece in summer in their shed but mostly...
Just thinking it over on her the past 2 days shed had seemed her normal self yesterday was the big drop, before then she still came running for her food etc. we’d noticed the food first shed nibble not finish then see her eating pellets soon after we assumed she was being picky. The water was...
This is the enrichment thread - Enrichment Ideas for GuineaPigs
Otherwise, I don’t do anything other than mentioned in my first post.
Pellets is just one tablespoon per pig per day
