A very important factor is that it is now starting to get late in the year to bring new piggies outside if they have only been used to living indoors until now.
Normally, where there is an intention for them to stay out year round, they would have come out at the beginning of summer so...
I’m based in the UK and looking to buy an outdoor run for my 2 boys to go out on the grass during the day, does anyone have any recommendations?
I’m not a practical person so hoping for something with minimal assembly! I saw one on the pets at home site but the reviews were really poor and it...
It doesn't matter whether the piggies are related or even living together; all that is needed is that the donor is healthy and that they are especially not on any antibiotic themselves.
If the transfer works, you should see a marked improvement within the following two days (keep in mind that it...
I can’t decide where to put our piggies when we get them. Indoors I could manage a 2x5ft cage, they would probably get much more attention but just feel cruel putting them in such a small space or would they be ok? Then having a run with a hide that they could go out in in dry warm days.
Or...
As you have boys, the first one is fine but the second one is unsuitable.
The cage size needed for two boars is 180x60cm or 12 square feet.
Minimum for two boys is 150x60cm (10 square feet) but personally I would avoid it and always go to 180x60cm. A pair of boars kept in too small of a space...
Hi all,
New about-to-be owner, currently looking for a pair of rescue piggies and getting my outdoor setup sorted in the meantime. Has anyone attached table legs to a heavy hutch? I have a H&R 5ft Hutch-over-run which is in great condition and just needs a clean up. However, I'm keen to try the...
Hi,
My sister got two male guinea pigs a few years back as well as 3 enclosures, a run on the grass and a hutch and indoor run inside a shed we built for them. All was okay until they stayed at a ‘Guinea pig Hotel’ whilst we were away on holiday and were too close to female guinea pigs. They...
Hi couldn't find another thread on this.
So, I've had g pigs for 2 years they have been absolutely fine. One is recently bereaved due to a bad congenital dental issue. I'm looking to adopt another boar. One rescue centre says that they can't adopt to me because I have a ramp without sides? I...
My animals - both rabbits and piggies - are outdoors in sheds.
I don’t feel any less of a bond with them because of that - I make sure to spend plenty of time with them because it is what I enjoy doing.
A run definitely would not count as space though - they can only be in it when you are there...
When I get my two boys out of their cage everyday, I've been using this: Folding Pet Cat Playpen Rabbit Hamster Indoor Outdoor Guinea Pig Run Portable UK | eBay
I am wondering if this is enough space? If that is ok for everyday out of cage time?
Or if I should get something bigger?
Was also...
...so he didn't really know how to guinea pig anyway, but I want the best life for them all, but I don't want to add another 2 pigs in the mix either!
We have 2 4x5 outdoorruns, 1 3x4 inside neutral pen, and 2 2x5s with 2x2 lofts, so there really isn't any more space I can give! What do I do...
So are you thinking of an aviary type of thing for outdoor time? Is it something that will be staying in one place or would you move it around the garden like you would with a run?
There was someone on YouTube who had an avairy setup for their pigs. Can't remember what was in it but it was a...
I have a shed.
I originally had four boars (in two pairs) so I had a two storey hutch with one pair at the top and one pair at the bottom. The shed floor was used as a time share run space for each pair.
This worked very well as it was easy to insulate the hutch (as well as the shed) and use...
You can find out all about the different suitable cage options available in this guide: Cages And Hutch Guide
Sometimes you can find cheap second hand ones on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree, occasionally local rescues sell off appropriate spare cages too. :)
Unfortunately companies like...
I have adopted four guinea pigs from my local shelter/rescue in Cornwall. I found the process fine. I had to email all my details, the indoor cage size and all the amenities such as a garden/outdoor space for a run etc. I was asked to email photos as Covid was prevalent. I already had piggies so...
Both back together and currently having quiet time. Meanwhile outside we’ve had a thunderstorm with hail, heavy rain showers and gusty winds. No wonder the bunnies are hiding under the hutch in the outdoor run - early indoors for them soon but this morning they were enjoying the lawn in the...
Hi
I was wondering if anyone had any experience of moving inside guinea pigs to an outside living space. We currently have 4 guinea pigs inside on fleece bedding in c&c cages. We have recently converted our large summer house into a guinea pig house, it is insulated and has electricity for fans...
Hi
You need to put some towel or fleece blanket down onto the ground; especially the patio area. Also make sure that the top is cat and fox safe and peg a towel or sheet over half of the run top to provide a shady area (keep in mind that the sun is moving).
Please make sure that you are around...
