Guinea pig's impaction keeps coming back – going to vet tomorrow

Please do not alternate but feed them side by side; replace half of the pellets with forage. Remember, regularity and no changes in your feeding routine can really help. What veg are you feeding? Perhaps we can help you? Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets

Mom's home! We get floor time then forage. Her new bag method is really keeping our room clean! She buys bags instead of boxes and puts the bag in the cage when she puts hay She cancelled my exam. I can't be out in negative twenty degrees!

    Unsure about forage vs pellets!

...boars, Bertie and Bailey 😊 they are currently 7 weeks old. Where they were born, they were being fed on a 'guinea pig mix'...

    Stripe and Chesney

Chez did a mound of poo. If I had to judge by eye, Stripe eats more but does less poo. Both have stable weight. I'm going to crack open a bag of forage from small select at floor time.

    Stripe and Chesney

I'm in their room now. I gave them some fresh hay and forage and Chez has a sheet up. I'm going to see if he'd like floor time but he doesn't really like it.

    Stripe and Chesney

We're having a gooood morning. Cage clean, zooming at floor time. But mom says I'm rude. She was in my way so I body slammed her and bit her jeans but my teeth got her leg. She says they are pretty sharp! Lounging for my forage.

    Probiotics

Sorry I forgot they have a pinch of forage in their hay pile in morning. And because button has not been having cucumber, I have been giving her about a centimetre of a really hard compressed Timothy hay stick which seems to like. I can feed it to her like I hand feed the cucumber to the other...

    Weight loss & pink pee

...check done. It would be worth checking the diet if she is having issues - ensuring you aren’t overfeeding anything high calcium. Pellets and forage count as one part of the diet so you want to make sure you aren’t overdoing things ie you may find for a bladder prone piggy that if you feed...

My piggies don't really eat forage 🙁. It's a nice thing to have on standby to brighten up their menu though 🥗

    Problems between my two males

...of more concern at all then do step in. Best not to have specified food areas - scatter food all around the whole cage so they have to forage. It will mean the dominant cannot food hog (he can’t guard the whole cage at one time) but it also provides them with mental stimulation and...

    Painful Poops

Thanks for the support 😊 really appreciate it. Yes he is eating plenty of good quality hay, forage and his wet veg. He poops so much, which I'd normally be really happy about but it's clearly causing him pain. Keeping an eye on his weight as per your suggestion. Just hoping we can get his pain...

    Calcium balance

Stripe gets 10 pellets and Chesney doesn't like pellets. I've been giving a large pinch of forage most days as enrichment. It keeps them from being naughty. But since I've been doing that all their pees have had calcium. Should I only give forage twice a week? I'm afraid that's not enough...

...for a long time, and quiet often she has days without that too. I do feel sorry for her. They eat a lot of hay! And I only use one type of forage to make sure it is not the forage doing it to her (this particular one she has gone a week without soft poos on, not had any more time to try any...

    came to the right place

Most people use plastic cat litter trays for hay. Easier to keep clean than anything wooden. Hay bags or racks aren’t recommended because they remove the ability for piggies to play and get in amongst the hay and properly forage in it. That is why loose hay in a tray is always best

    Grass

Welcome to the forum. I use a pair of scissors to cut fresh grass from the garden for mine I also buy Readigrass from Amazon but it’s quite rich so they don’t get much. Have a look at Piggies Parcels website too. She’s a forum member and has some wonderful forage

Is my guinea pigs cage okay

A huge pile of hay, perhaps mix in some dried forage - and another vote for a carrot cottage! They really do love them! 😊
