Sorry to hear this. I have two older pigs and one of them has had some unexplained weight loss, various inconclusive tests. We give her critical care off a small plate which she takes daily and the vets say it’s fine to do this at her age. She still eats her hay, veg and some pellets but she’s...
Just an abscess, apparently! She had to have some brief general anaesthetic because she was understandably fussing a lot, but they drained it in a matter of seconds; she's on antibiotics and painkillers for the next week.
She got home about 7 hours ago, but she still seems a little off - her...
Hii everyone!
Do Guinea pigs eat less as they get older?
My baby girl is 5 years old but I’ve noticed she’s been eating less hay these last couple of months (2-3 months) than she used to. Overall, her hay seems to be eaten less than before. Here’s what I’ve noticed.
- She’s still chewing hay...
The sheets are available in Amazon and don't cost much. They can be held on with fold back clips or hole punched and secured with cable ties or just stood against the bars.
It's a small graze, and since using Mupirocin, it has decreased so it isn't obvious anymore. It's healed a lot, and I probably won't need it from tomorrow.
Mine get a bit over a cup worth of veg. I don’t feed pellets much - they get around five pellets each twice a week.
During summer in addition to their veg, they also get around 14 hours per day grazing time on the grass
I use a water filter as I live in an area with very hard water. Fresh grass is usually their favourite food, but you need to add it to the diet carefully. If left standing it ferments so remove any uneaten grass and build up the amount offered slowly to avoid bloat. Introducing your piggies to...
Hi, I hope everyone out there is well...
Two months ago we lost our darling boy Oreo, he was 6. This leaves our other dear old boy Waffle alone now. They are the same age and have been together from babies. Waffle is ordinarily the most outgoing and characterful piggy, very inquisitive and...
Poor boy! It's looking positive. Perhaps after a week he will come out and graze again. It's great that he's not whimpering, it must mean he's much more comfortable although he may be tired.
I think keeping animals must be facing challenges in Britain. Farming for wool, people who keep lamas, alpacas, chickens, racing pigeons, rabbits, animals that you can't wet or keep under air conditioning that need to go out and graze need extra care now I would think 🙁
Hello,
For context my piggie is 5 years old (6 this December) and female.
Back in in November 2025 I had a very poorly piggie, she had a urine infection and arthiritis flare up so therefore was off her food for a little while.
She has always been a smaller guinea pig however her weight always...
Yes, we're definitely going in the morning regardless, was just hoping to get some reassurance that she didn't need to be seen to in the next hour or so! I slept at 3 and when I woke up at 5 she was in the same spot, but she may well have moved and gone back in the meantime. I got out some more...
I was so inspired by this thread that I created a blog post about spot cleaning! I put some pictures and videos of how I set everything up and how I do spot cleaning.

I also have two "zones" - one for the bedding and hay...
I'm so excited! After Stripe's third feeding just now he didn't run into his hide right away and stayed out and grazed for 8 minutes! He even looked next door for Chez for the first time! I think this is progress.
Hello.
I put my pigs outside in their run this evening, and to prevent cats from entering the room that I share with them, I blocket the door with some C&C grids and a walking pole.
You can probably predict where this is going at this point.
When carrying them back in, I had forgotten to take...
I wanted to update my post; we very sadly had to let Blackberry go on Wednesday. She had a number of problems, likely genetic, but it was the rate her teeth were over growing that we couldn't keep on top of. We tried twice, but in just short of 3 months, she'd only been able to graze normally...
Guinea pigs need to constantly keep their gut moving by grazing on hay throughout the day. But they don't know not too keep eating veg all day. So they don't stop, they'll always want food from you because it's just in their nature to constantly eat to keep their teeth down and their gut moving...
