Hi everyone- needing some support for my 2 year old piggy, Kenzo (currently 910 grams). Since February this year, he has been squeaking and straining when toileting. After many tests (urine tests, cultures, ultra sounds and CT scan etc), the vets have diagnosed him with Sterile Cystitis. Since...
Hi
HUGS
I am so very sorry.
This does sound very worrying indeed and needs an urgent vet examination. Please try to get her seen as soon as possible as an emergency; one possibility could be that the stone has moved and could be blocking the urethra. There are however other possible causes...
Hi everyone.
Ive been giving both my guineas oxbowurinarysupport tablets for a year now after a particularly dressing urthera stone developed for my piggy Mavis.
Although she is a piggy prone to this as many are, combined with a multitude of adjustments we seem to have kept any reoccurrence...
...still there. She poos normally although does an awful lot! She is reasonably (for her) active and eats well. I have her on OxbowUrinarysupport and have also now bought Sherwood Urinarysupport which is supposed to dissolve stones and sludge in case the ultrasound missed something. Does...
Hi, if you check out this pellet, it contains more glucosamine than cystease and oxbow supplements. Feel free to send me any questions ☺️ (I’m Amanda from Piggie parcels) x
Guinea Pig Pellet with Joint and UrinarySupport - 1kg
...twice a day on prevent calcium build up and half a capsule of Cystaid for cats twice a day to protect his bladder.
He has one Oxbowurinarysupport tablet a day and regular low calcium and watery veggies (cucumber, courgette, some coriander soaked in water).
With also swapped his Timothy...
...Brita in the US doesn't appear to filter out any calcium. So only calcium free bottled water for my piggies! Much cheaper than a bladder surgery.
I also give them the oxbowurinarysupport tablets. 1 vet said go ahead and do that, but another vet recently told me it doesn't help.
Hope this helps
Thank you so much, @Wiebke ❤️ with all of your guides and tips I have told my boys that you are their godparent 😂
I am sorry for another question, but I have been researching glucosamine and have found I should either order as a supplement via syringe or in a form like the Piggy Parcel Pellets...
I hadn’t considered Hyperdrug, but thanks for the suggestion. I’m hoping they like the urinarysupport pellets I’ve just ordered from Amanda at Piggie Parcels, fingers crossed!
Hello,
My pig Peanut is leaving calcium deposits every few days. They seem to be bright white and slightly gritty. No huge deposits. She is on a low calcium and on low calcium/grain free pellets. I’ve tried filtering the water but they seem to go off water when I do. I give her the oxbow joint...
...bathroom in and her pee is kind of red. She’s still normally eating and drinking, but not moving around as much. I bought her Oxbowurinarysupport treats incase that would help her. She had stones last September but they went away with critical care. The vet said last time to feel for the...
Oxboy urinarysupport tablets are at the lower end but as long as you are not dealing with a more serious long term complain like sterile cystitis, they are OK.
Right now it is a bit of a wait and see situation as to whether it is a one off or wether there will be more in coming days.
Hi Amanda, thanks so much for your reply! I actually got the other pellets in the brown bag - but the ones in the white bag would be better for an IC piggy?
Welcome to the forum
First, there is no medication that will dissolve stones. Sherwood is not a medication and there is no evidence that it does anything but it certainly will not dissolve stones. Stones have to be surgically removed unless they are tiny enough to pass on their own.
Has her...
Hello everyone!
I’ve been reading posts on here for years but finally decided after so much trial and error to ask for help. I want to add that I am in the US so that may impact some things.
I’ve been a guinea pig mom for many years. My one boy just passed last Friday from a second bladder...
We buy Tesco Ashbeck bottled water as it only contains 17mgs of calcium which is the lowest I've ever found!
But if you need to keep using the Volvic, then just add a few flakes of magnesium to the water and that will give you a bit more magnesium added to the ratio. We buy ours from...
I wonder if there is a transatlantic supply issue - both of Oxbow's UrinarySupport and Joint Support tablets are out of stock at VetUK, the supplier I used to use.
An alternative would be to use Feliway Cystease capsules, the main ingredient of both is glucosamine which eases urinary pain by...
...took her to the vet for. She has been checked for bladder stones via a scan and nothing was found, so she has recommended some OxbowUrinarysupport. They arrived today but my piggie seem to not want to eat them? She kinda nibbled the outer part then left it, i feel like its a little too...
...her for her first year or so of life. Shes about 3-4 now. We do have hard water here so I have a filter and I feed all my piggies oxbow pellets using the recommended portion size.
Her pee is looking clear this morning thankfully. Would the oxbowurinarysupport tablets be a good choice?
Thanks!
