    oxbow vitamin c pellets

In the nearly 20 years of forum existence we have only had very few scurvy cases. The majority of those were from over-supplemented piggies where the body had become accustomed to the higher levels and was reacting to a sudden dip with instant scurvy symptoms. Artificial vitamin C has its place...

    Pellet question

...overly keen on any pellets but quite like the ones pictured- are these ok for them- I only give half a tablespoon each or would a pellet free diet be ok for them? I’m scared of pellets as my Piggy Muffin died from bladder stones and I always worry about the calcium in them. Equally I don’t...

    oxbow vitamin c pellets

Thank you. I did stop the vit c supplement as soon as Kreacher finished his antibiotics. Since re-introducing bell peppers I found out they only eat it when I give it to them in the evening! (I used to give it in the morning) they are so strange but i wouldn't have them any other way 🤣😂

    Going pellet free?

Thank you this is really helpful. I’ve always wondered if there’s certain health benefits to different dried forages? Like I’ve read some are anti inflammatory, some are beneficial for the bladder?

Bladder related issues I suspect pellets.

Hi thanks for this, I spoke to the vets today and they agreed that pallets are the most likely culprit, but to keep the veg.

Bladderstone - best diet quick fix

He's mister attitude, a truly devil in disguise. He has a reputation at the vet office and yesterday he was trying to do a Mike Tyson-jab on vet. He was so angry after doing x-rays and runned from the vet after she's been giving him a shot of methadone in his sweet little bumm. He washed himself...

Guinea pigs with air in stomack

Hi and welcome How much veg are you feeding? We recommend a cupful (250ml). Very little pellets, about 1 tablespoon per piggy per day maximum. Pea flakes are a treat. Do you give fresh grass regularly or do give a lot but with longer intervals? How do harvest the fresh grass? (Ripping...

    Water and Calcium

@Piggies&buns So we’ve got a 3 in 1 tap like yourself. The calcium on United Utilities website is listed as the typical value being 6.76 for our area. We have a 3 in 1 boiling water tap. It has a cold water filter that remove impurities but doesn’t change the water hardness. I have just...

Here are the photos of the white I’m seeing dry on fleece and bath mats.

    Sterile Cystitis

We have had both girls for two years now, who are related. They are approx 5 years old now. Both have signs of crystals when we have done urine samples over the past two years and when they urinate on fleece or bath mats it always dries white. Should it be drying white on fleece and bath mats...

    Refusing bell peppers

Peppers are not every piggy's favourite food. Alternatively, with a reduced amount of pellets and with filtered water for hard and medium water areas, you can feed safely once a week a 1 inch slice of greens (UK)/collard greens (USA), a little kale etc., or a bit of parsley, dill etc. These...

Bunch of diet-related questions, as I still can't get my head around balance after 8+ years.

I know these are probably commonly asked questions, but maybe someone can pick up something that might be key to me tweaking things a little. So, I've just lost my 6th guinea pig. A girl, aged 4.5 years, quite suddenly. The youngest I've ever lost. It seems like it was possibly bloat, perhaps...

    Red / hot ears

The vet didn't let him be seen today or tomorrow as it 'wasn't an emergency'! and they had no appointments. I persisted and they said that if I drop him off in the morning they will keep him as a hospital patient and when a vet is free they will check him over. Which is triple the price than...

Nori: Likely IC for months with no improvement

Hi and welcome I am very sorry. Try to up the glucosamine to 120-150 mg daily and see whether that helps (glucosamine is classed as a food supplement and not as a prescription-only medication but you may have to wait a little as glucosamine is spread all over the body and builds up slowly...

Newbie - food and housing questions

I was overreacting with the cucumber. They were not. Someone literally wrote me it will kill them. How to adjust for babies? I have read 2 slices per day per animal so per baby it will be half? And if they were used only to eat carrot how fast can I eliminate it from their diet? I currently give...

Piggy overnight at the vets & tests today

Thanks all. He's just at the vets now with hubby who's dropping him off. He stayed overnight with us last night and seemed to be using his back legs a little more though I think that's because he perked up a bit when he got back and was with his girlfriend again. He's been eating well this...

Ok, thank you so much! I will go fix his eating situation right now.

    Getting more worried

Lots of pooping is good! It’s when they stop pooping which is an emergency situation. He should only have just one tablespoon per day of kibble/pellets and then once those few have gone it doesn’t get topped up until the next day. Dry food like pellets (what you call kibble we call pellets or...
