    Is this a good bedding?

Oh I see... I was using hay and woodshaving as bedding for the current cage, and it was working, but I wanted something more comfortable and since it is indoors in my bedroom...? Also, with a large cage I would need lots of hay and woodshaving. Do you think 4 pads would be good to the whole...

    Guinea pig bedding. Please help

Hi my daughter has two guinea pigs. Please can someone tell me what’s best to use as bedding? We used straw bedding, currently use a towel but they stink. I read to use fleece bedding? Can I buy a general bed fleece from a shop and use that? Will they bury under it? Please help they live in her...

    Inoperable tumour

Thank you so much for your reply. I immediately went and looked up 'bum baths' here, so she had one, accompanied by nuggets, in the bowl for the weighing scale. It looks a lot better. My daughter said she has seen her curling up upon herself to scratch, so why would it be that she is no longer...

What do you do to make life easier?

In all seriousness… to try and make life with 5 to 7 pigs easier (2 recent losses, one pig on trial..who’s currently in prison). I keep their hay in hay trays that I can just lift out, empty clean and refill every 2-3 days. (New hay added twice a day). I do not spot clean everyday..sometimes...

    Big Jowls

Yes, it’s very weak and suppresses the mites, I don’t think it works well. You run the risk of them coming back. Once you have taken the fleece out of the freezer let it dry as normal then you can use. The defrost cracks any eggs that have been laid on the fleece

    Leaking water bottle

Have you checked the nozzle for gunk (with a cottonbud)? If your piggies can do with just one bottle, then take the faulty bottle out. I would recommend that you buy two new bottles so you always have one in reserve from now on.

Vetbed v noodle bath mats for dryness

I use both and fleece liners for the main area of the cage. The vet bed definitely keeps them a lot drier because the urine soaks through it and is locked underneath by the special fabric backing. I use small pieces of vet bed for my elderly piggy in the main places he sleeps, (under his...

    Outdoor Bedding

Hi all, We're getting some piggies in the spring. I've had piggies before but not for over ten years. I used to use newspaper as a bottom layer of the hutch but we don't buy newspapers anymore! Is there a good disposable sheet material alternative I can use outdoors (so not fleece type)? For...

    Worry about toxic toys

Safe & Unsafe Toys And Runs Guide I've linked a thread you may find useful. I don't buy any commercial toys, they don't use with them. They love cardboard boxes, paper bags stuffed with hay, cardboard tubes, fleece tubes and big piles of hay.

Making DIY Liners & Pee pads, tips?

I use anti pill fleece which I mostly get on ebay, off cuts are cheapest way to buy. The middle layer is quilted mattress protector (not water proof ones). I have recently used one from the Range middle priced one which is a much better quality than the cheaper ones I used to use and is not...

Update: On two bonding boars, and how often to clean fleece liner

I’m glad things are going well. Fleece can need to be washed every 3-5 days so yes you need to wash it. I assume then that you only have one fleece given you are asking what to put in the cage in the meantime. You are going to need to buy several more fleeces so that when one is in the wash...

    Is this a good bedding?

As hay is the main source of food, being surrounded by hay is good for them! Bedding is personal choice though Yes four will probably be ok for now.

Show us a picture of your piggies's favourite fleece hideys?

I am a fabric and fleece addict! OH says he will be living on our little boat next, there’s no cupboard with an inch of space in it 😜 I am self taught so have a go, I find it really relaxing like gardening!

    Fleece liner question

Hmm no wadding here in mattress protectors. I've seen that only in mattress protectors for children from the Ikea. Zorb is not available in the Netherlands. I think it is related to certain substances that are not permitted in the EU. I see that flannel is not the same as molton. Molton is...

Piggy with an often wet belly and legs

So it’s not just me with a very silly boy! Eggs is unfussed about where he sits as well as being messy. My other boy Ollie actually keeps his cage quite clean, he tends to go to the toilet in specific areas. I made the boys a salad the other day, put it right behind Eggs’ legs, and he still...
