Yes the internal measurements of any shed are always smaller and a 6x4 shed with a hutch will not leave much room around it.
I assume you are having the door on the 6ft side?
My own shed is a 6x8ft which I had custom built so I can’t speak from personal experience on how to make a 6x4 work...
hiya .
i’m rescuing 2 male piggies this week and i'm super excited. i’ve previously had many pigs that have been outside there whole life (my eldest living to 8years) .
I would really like these boys to go outside but they’ve been inside pigs for a year , do i have to transition them or can i...
Perfect. Think I will invest in the HopInn ones, they look cosier to me. Could I put fleece around top/sides of those as well for extra insulation?
Weve stopped putting the boys out for exercise in the outdoor run now it’s getting cold. We don’t space for a permanent indoor setup unfortunately...
They will be fine. Please don’t worry.
You can conclude that yours is keeping it at 18 degrees - it’s only going two degrees down and two degrees up from that; that is pretty stable.
There is nothing you have said which would worry me at all - in fact the opposite, if I could heat my shed and...
I think that hutches would work better in terms of insulation and keeping the piggies warm in winter. c and c would be really difficult to keep in the heat, keep out the drafts and keep the piggies warm enough through the colder times to come.
Is there an outside shed or garage that you could move their hutch into?
I know some members have put duvets around the hutch under the waterproofing.
You could make snuggly beds from small upturned cardboard boxes stuffed with hay -cardboard and hay are good insulators but you will need to...
Hi,
We have recently moved house into our own place from a rental and the piggies now have their own shed. They’re just in hutches for now inside the shed but looking to get integrated enclosures built.
I am concerned that come summer time the shed will get too hot for them. We are going to...
Hi there, first time posting, seen loads of good advice here! 😄 I’m just hoping for some tips on my winter set up for my 2 outdoor boys. This forum seems to be more accepting of outdoor setups more than other places online.
Current Hutch
We currently have the house below that was given to us -...
Just so I'm clear on this: you're saying they shouldn't have unfettered access to the outdoor space because of the temperature, or because of other reasons as well? And what if it's been raining in summer?
If the previous owner was trying to keep four boars together then that would explain issues. Four together doesn’t work and it can unfortunately break all bonds meaning it’s not always possible to make two pairs out of a failed quartet.
I’m afraid as outdoor piggies that won’t work. Outdoor...
My piggies live in my purpose built shed. It has stable doors as well as internal mesh doors so that the main doors can still be left open and they are still protected inside.
The shed is insulated.
One big question - is your shed able to be heated?
My shed is not heated.
Originally they...
Thanks for the great advice. Currently the shed doesn't have electricity but I'm working on that! I will be adding foil insulation to the shed but the more I think about I would feel more confident with a hutch for peace of mind. I'll have to experiment with an irregular shape of C&C cage to...
I remember you!
I keep mine in my shed. It’s insulated but not heated (can’t get electric out there).
I have a stable door with internal mesh door so it can be opened for ventilation.
I have previously kept them in hutches in the shed as it is much easier to keep them warm in a hutch with...
It’s quite sad seeing that photo because it really brings home to me how big the tumour must be. We’re keeping an even closer eye on her now for signs of discomfort because it can’t be much longer, even though she’s still lithe and lively. Six months post-diagnosis! We’re all going to be so...
Snugglesafes are a necessity for outdoor piggies. You heat them up in a microwave and then pop them in their cage (and/or in hides) to provide them somewhere warm to sit. They stay warm for up to 10 hours but I find it slightly less outside (mine are also in a shed) and more like 6-8 hours...
Hello everyone.
I am a Father (who is inexperienced with piggies) looking to help/advice on how to upgrade a wendyhouse into a piggie house. My plan is to covert the ground floor of our existing wendyhouse into a home for these piggies before we look at adopting. I have searched "playhouse" and...
I just had a bog standard 8x6 shed, I built the hutch into one end of the shed putting insulation between shed wall and hutch so it was nice and snug, I also ran power in to the shed so I had lighting and an oil filled radiator for added heat. My piggies and buns lived long happy lives. 👍
Hi everyone, looking for lots of tips and advice for setting up my 6 x 4 shed for 2 Guinea pigs we have arriving next weekend. 😊
Particularly looking for advice on insulation type, size of mesh suitable to keep mice and rats out and paints/wood preservatives which are safe for animals too...
thank you so much!
although now iv cracked this i need to work out what i’m going to do about the warm weather lol!
I'm obviously going to get a mesh door, but how does that work if in the mornings its still super cold but come afternoon its roasting in there and needs the door open but i’m...
I second shed insulation. My shed is insulated with the same foil stuff as @Piggies&buns and it does make a difference. I also have curtains up at windows and doors to help with any drafts. It dropped to 3°C here last night and the shed itself was 9°C. I have covers for the hutches as well as...
