Welcome to the forum
They can take some time to settle in and warm up to human interaction - they usually get there in the end (although some may never enjoy being cuddled, but will tolerate short amounts of handling for their weekly weight and health checks), but it can take some time.
I have...

It’s not recommended to use fleece bedding outside. It may be fine in summer but not in winter.
Best bedding for outdoor piggies is an absorbent substrate (of your choosing), and then lots of hay on top for snuggling into particularly in winter.
Will the shed be heated and insulated?
Mine live...
I’ll weigh him when my daughter gets here, only because he tried to jump out of the cage when I opened it to avoid me earlier and I need to take a side panel off to lift up that built in hidey, where he will go. It’s not a big enough hole for both my hands to get through and I need an extra pair...
The most important thing here is that they are outside albeit in a garage, so what happens with the temperature, humidity etc in the garage is vital to knowing whether fabric bedding of any kind will work. It can be ok to use fabric bedding for outdoor piggies in a dry summer, but it’s not...
Oh lord I totally see what your saying :) I worried now about them getting too cold and my husband can’t have them indoors as his allergy is crazy he has to take antihistamines everyday. I’ll have to have a think and see what the best options would be and discuss with him. They are such lovely...
Hello :)
Thank you so much for your advise and guidance,
Hello :)
Thank you so much for your advise and guidance, everything you said makes perfect sense. Aww that’s really good sign then as they are both taking veg from my hand and if I keep my hand in the cage they come over and nudge and...
I'll also add that they have fleece bedding and have had the same hay (orchard) this whole time, and they live indoors. Their room has almost constant access to outdoor air through a window and she seems to be worse if she's been outside in the run. The only difference I can think of is I've...
Thank you for the quick reply. The shed will be insulated and it will have electricity. How do you keep your shed cool? Yes, I was thinking to keep the fleece for floor times. Where is the best place to order megazorb from? Also what type of shaving you use? Is the hay for bedding different to...
Try the list of recommended rescues as well. Contact them and look on their websites to see which piggies may be available.

I would recommend you don’t buy anything until you have had contact with a rescue...
The vet seems to not know that neutering boars doesn’t do anything other than make them
Infertile. He won’t get worse because he won’t know Percy has been neutered.
Neutering other species changes their behaviour but doesn’t do that to piggies.
As Claire has said neutering them both now...
I read somewhere that pushing the bottle around and the pellets falling out would be a fun game for them.
Do you not have any feeding bowls in your cage/hutches? I haven't brought any but have found some small bowls in the shed and have mega cleaned them so they are safe to use
It sounds as if you have a good system that works for you!
Unfortunately using anything made of fleece in an outsidehutch in the UK isn’t advisable. The cold and damp conditions of a UK winter means that fleeceoutside stays damp so piggies will be exposed to being cold and wet overnight
I wouldn’t use fleece at all. It isn’t recommended for outdoor use. Plus if it is directly on the ground it’ll draw damp upwards. I would put a tarpaulin on the ground as a barrier, then a layer of something absorbent and then fill the whole space with lots of hay. I would not think two...
Hi, I am making a temporary c&c cage in my room as a place for my pigs to stay when I take them inside. They currently live outside in a hutch and I struggle to find motivation to bring them inside and interact with them from personal issues. They have a run attached to their hutchoutside and I...
Hi thanks for your helpful response, since the mistake I made last winter my eyes will be peeled for keeping them dry and safe at all times. I prefer sawdust but the fleece/mats are 100% the best option for my pigs right now especially as it is becoming much warmer here.
All my mats are...
:agr: with the above posts. Fleece is not suitable for outsidehutches as a result of it becoming damp. There are many types of bedding including shavings that are suitable for outsidehutches. Here is a link to our bedding guide Bedding For Guinea Pigs - Overview
Thats good
We don’t recommend using fleeceoutside/in sheds due to the risk of damp. Hay with an absorbent bedding underneath is best for outdoor piggies.
It would be well worth you having thermometers in the hutch and greenhouse. Piggies ideally need to be above 15 degrees so its good to...
It’s really great they can stay inside for this winter.
You can spend this winter preparing for them to go out in spring time, if they are to go fully outside you will need hutch covers and a couple of snugglesafes.
If they are to stay outside or even in the garage during next winter, then you...
