    Too much critical care?

Thank you for the advice @PigglePuggle and @Piggies&buns Molly is doing well. She’s just about starting to eat hay on her own. I will of course carry on with critical care until I’m sure she’s fully eating on her own. She was so eager for the critical care she stuck her head in the...

    Too much critical care?

thanks. I’ve given her more until she wouldn’t take anymore. Thankfully she’s happily eating it without any pressure from me. She’s had three lots of the teaspoon mix which must be close to 9 teaspoons worth in the last few hours. I’m heading to bed and will get up in a few hours to give her...

    Too much critical care?

One of my piggies had an op today to remove bladder stones (it turned out it wasn’t bladder stones but a very infected bladder, the X-ray etc had been inconclusive hence the op as poor Molly was really struggling). she did great at the vets and ate right away. Of course, now she’s home she’s...

    Xeno 450 - what happens?

She used a magnifying ear funnel thing (I can’t recall what she it was called) when she diagnosed mites. I will keep an eye on her in case she shows any signs of a head tilt again though. They all live in my living room so I see them all the time and am able to keep a good eye on their health.

    Xeno 450 - what happens?

Thanks for the quick reply. Flynn will go straight back to the vets if she shows any signs of the head tilt again. The vet said they could see mites when they looked in her ear so I am hoping that is the only cause. And thank you for the tip on the deep clean. I’ll mark it in my diary so I...

    Xeno 450 - what happens?

One of my piggies developed a head tilt yesterday. She was seen by the vets, diagnosed with mites and given xeno 450. I have to treat my other three the same. This has all gone well, Flynn doesn’t have a head tilt this morning and everything seems normal apart from greasy fur where the treatment...

    Zorb?

Thank you! It didn’t occur to me to look in Etsy.

    Zorb?

Is zorb known by another name? I’m trying to find some online to make more pee pads from. I left some at my parents at Christmas and so I keep running out. Googling zorb just seems to bring up those balls people run around in... I don’t think they work in the same way! :)

    fleece bedding

@pigs4life i buy fleece by the metre (there’s some reasonably priced online shops in the UK). And then put towels underneath. I get towels on sale when I can. And sometimes fleece blankets if they look good enough. Supermarkets can be good for that (if you’re UK based).

    Separate or joined?

That sounds like my living room! I’m sure I’ll find a random box I can cut up to use. I just need to get creative!

    Separate or joined?

That’s a great idea, thank you. I hadn’t thought to introduce the “gap” slowly. I’ll see what I can find to use. It was recycling collection day today - typical!

    Separate or joined?

I have two female piggies with a neutered boar. Last January I adopted another sow. She was part of a big group so I didn’t think I’d have any trouble bonding (I haven’t in the last when I’ve introduced piggies to the group). Anyway, it went horribly so Missy had to stay separate. Most of the...

    Fleece blankets

I buy fleece by the metre from fabric shops (I use minerva crafts online quite a lot). It’s often better value for money than individual blankets.

3 hour car journey - any advice please?

I put freezer packs in with them as well as AC. Cover the carriers with a lightweight scarf to block out sun and then give them cucumber and lettuce every hour to an hour and a half (depending on service stations). And I make sure they have cucumber when I get to my location. They seem to travel...

    Soft lump behind ear

My mum noticed today Molly has a lump too. It’s underneath the middle of one of her rosettes. It’s really hard to see (a bit of an optical illusion). I should be heading home next week so I can take them both to the specialist in Brum. I’ve read reasons for lumps and I can’t see a reason that...

    Soft lump behind ear

The vet said it looked like it might be full of quite thick pus (maybe) as she wasn’t able to extract any liquid. She didn’t think antibiotics would help much (and may do more harm) and doesn’t want to operate unless necessary. So I have to watch and see if the lump grows or if she stops being...

How often should I bathe my guinea pigs?

I give my long haired piggies a bum bath if needed as they can sometimes get a bit messy if they sit in their pee. I use a burts bees baby shampoo and make sure it is thoroughly washed off. If they don’t need much cleaning then I just use water. My short haired piggy has never had a bath as...

    Soft lump behind ear

To cut a long story short I’m 200miles from home at my parents with a broken ankle. My parents have been doing a sterling job of looking after my piggies while I’ve been getting over surgery etc. I gave Flynn (3yo female) a bath today (she’s so messy) and noticed a soft lump behind her ear...

    They’ll Never Get Along?

@VickiA Thanks. I hoped it wasn’t a done deal. I can have them as pairs assuming I can make it work with them. It’s a shame to break up Rufus and Flynn but I may have to.
