Meet Maggie!
I wasn’t planning on adopting anytime soon but when I saw Maggie’s picture I just knew I had to have her. She came from a family with kids that no longer had time for her. They were not sure on her age. They got her in June of 2020 and they said she was adult size when they got...
I’m so sorry. Losing piggos is never easy and it’s completely valid to be having a hard time with the loss. I also have/had piggos that are all around the same age. With that means they are all passing around the same time. It’s so difficult to deal with not only one but multiple losses. Hugs to...
I haven’t posted on here in awhile so I thought I’d update on the passing of our sweet Ezra.
We said goodbye to Ezra at the beginning of November. He was 6.5 years old and lived longer than we ever thought he would. He had arthritis and other health struggles in his last few years but always...
Lumen past away last Wednesday. She was 6.5 years old and had been showing signs of heart disease and general age related health issues the last few months. She was slowing down but happy and active until her last day. She had been slowly declining but every time we considered taking her to the...
Update: It’s been a few weeks since Wilma’s last injection. They seem to be working 😃 Her hair is starting to grow back and the cyst appears to have shrunk some on the ultrasound.
We finally had a warm enough day and enough grass in our yard to give the guinea pigs some outside time. It’s had been so long since they had been outside and Wilma forgot she could eat grass. She just sat confused for a few minutes lol. Eventually they all stuffed their faces with tons of grass...
Is she getting pain meds and an antibiotic? Meloxicam is an ant-inflammatory used for pain. Syringe feeding critical care is hard. Finding a syringe that works well for you and your piggo helps. Finding one with a tip that easier to get in there tiny little mouths sometimes makes it easier. The...
I know you said the vet looked his mouth over real good but did they do a sedated exam? It can sometimes be really difficult to get a good look at their back teeth. In the past a number of my piggos have had mild short sedation to look at their mouth or file broken teeth.
She handled the injection like a pro. She was eating a carrot while they gave it to her. The vet said Wilma was more concerned they were trying to steal her carrot than about the injection 😂
I don’t think it’s super common for them to make it all the way to 20 but it’s possible. When we took Chico in he was already old so we weren’t expecting him to be with us long. We joke that he knew we were underestimating him and now he’s going to live as long as possible to prove us wrong lol.
I just realized I’ve never introduced Chico on here. We got Chico about 2 years ago. He is 18 years old and has had an interesting life. Chico lived most of his life as an eduction animal at our local zoo where our friend was a zoo keeper. When Chico’s cage mate passed away he got a bit...
That’s exactly what is going on with Wilma. The only reason I noticed was hair thinning. The vet ruled everything else out and figured it was a cyst. Out of curiosity she did an ultrasound to see if she could see one and was able to see a fluid filled mass near her ovaries. Your piggie was very...
Update: My vet consulted a specialist who recommended the injections as an option. She has an appointment on Tuesday to start them. Fingers crossed they help her :)
Wilma recently started losing some hair on the sides of her belly and has had some hair thinning. She is a Peruvian mix so she hides the hair loss well. I took her to the vet and as I suspected she has an ovarian cyst. She’s 6.5 years old and surgery isn’t a promising option for her. Right now...
Sadly both Dexter and Quinn passed recently.
Dexter passed September 22. He had some unusual breathing and it was discovered he likely had a lung tumor. We made the decision to help him peacefully cross the rainbow bridge. He got to eat his favorite snack of fennel and blueberries and got lots...
This years Pigmas picture :D
*all hats are just set on piggies heads(not affixed) and no one had to participate in hat wearing that didn’t want to, hence Chico and Wilma not wearing them*
