Possible to teach 2 middle-aged dogs new tricks?

Sorry Pepper - I haven't been able to use the Internet all week! Thank you for your reply - I feel a bit more confident again and am going to look at clicker training. :)

Possible to teach 2 middle-aged dogs new tricks?

Thanks Amanda. I should probably have elaborated - we have previously spent hours and hours walking and training them separately - one dog walks really nicely (after the initial excitement has died down) and one has never learnt to walk at heal, despite us trying everything. We took them to...

Possible to teach 2 middle-aged dogs new tricks?

I will try to keep this short, but would really appreciate any of you dog owners out there giving me some advice about my 2 silly Labs. We have 2 6 year old neutered male Labs who just don't seem to have ever calmed down. They're typical Labs (love absolutely everything and everyone) and...

All 5 piggies have been poorly this weekend - opinions/advice please.

Thank you for all your kind responses. It is 2.5% Baytril. The good news is that they are definitely improving so whatever it is must be working its way through their systems. Primrose seems much happier and has even wheeked at me for a treat - she did do it from a laying position, but I'm...

All 5 piggies have been poorly this weekend - opinions/advice please.

    I should add that the vet (who was lovely) thought it seemed like some sort of infectious illness that had spread quickly amongst them, but I haven't heard of any such illness that matches their symptoms... :{

All 5 piggies have been poorly this weekend - opinions/advice please.

I would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that it was really cool and overcast here all weekend - we were out in the garden all weekend (building a new chicken run) and it was verging on being cold. I really don't think it's heat stroke, especially since Violet only started to show...

All 5 piggies have been poorly this weekend - opinions/advice please.

Yes - I'm putting 0.4mls into 100mls water. I must admit that my first thought was that they could have been poisoned (it was the speed and severity of it all) - we don't use chemicals in the garden, but I did buy them corn on the cobs from the market on Saturday morning - I wonder if they had...

All 5 piggies have been poorly this weekend - opinions/advice please.

The only thing is that they didn't start to show any problems until late on Saturday night and it was really very cool here all day on Saturday - I even put a fleece on at one point. So, I really don't think it's been caused by heat? The vet told me to put the Baytril in their water - how much...

All 5 piggies have been poorly this weekend - opinions/advice please.

Well, as the title says, all 5 of my piggies have been poorly this weekend. :( It started on Saturday night, when Primrose and Floss seemed unwell, then Oscar and Roxy seemed under the weather on Sunday morning. The symptoms are that they just want to lie down, not eating or drinking, hunched...

    2013 Weightloss/Dietng Thread

I'm not doing Slimming World, but I did acquire a copy of the mag and can vouch for their recipe for fish and chips being amazing - you wouldn't know that no fat is used. I use cod loin and make the chips into paprika wedges and it is such a yummy treat with mushy peas and a blob of tartare...

    2013 Weightloss/Dietng Thread

Well done everyone - keep going! :) I really feel that the 5:2 diet has finally clicked for me - in fact, it is a complete revelation! I think the key to success is working out a way to cope with fast days. After some experimenting, I have found that it's quite easy for me if I don't eat...

    2013 Weightloss/Dietng Thread

Sarah, I totally understand too. It really annoys me when people talk about 'just cutting down' as if it's something really easy - I hate being such a slave to my lack of willpower and self-discipline - if I could just 'cut down' I would bloomin well do it, but it really isn't that simple for...

    2013 Weightloss/Dietng Thread

I was quite shocked when I weighed my 3 year old this week - he's 2 and a half stones (about what I still want to lose). I'm effectively carrying him around all day, every day (and he really is heavy to carry). Has really made me think...

    2013 Weightloss/Dietng Thread

Well, I've ordered a pedometer today - It'll be interesting to see how many steps I'm already doing (probably not enough) - I'm going to make sure I reach the daily 10,000 target.

Uh oh, we have company in the shed...

I'll try to find some galvanised bins! Hopefully the country store up the road sells them. I can't really disinfect the whole shed...disinfecting wood isn't easy and I'd be doing it on a daily basis. Obviously, I thoroughly clean all my bowls and bottles anyway.

    What made you get pigs?

My first guinea pig, who I got when I was about 10, was called Harold and we got him to keep our rabbit company - this was 20+ years ago and it was just what everyone did. They actually lived really happily together; although, I wouldn't ever do it now. However, when we adopted another rabbit...

Uh oh, we have company in the shed...

I cleaned out the piggy shed today and it is clear that we have visiting mice - they've chewed a hole through the food bag, shredded some newspaper and, I guess, had a good old feast. Tomorrow I'm going to buy some bins to put all the food in, but I guess there's not much else I can do, is...
