A pitiful existence for a lonely rodent

Thanks. Hmn, I’ll give more consideration over borrowing a rodent or two. I wouldn’t need to go to Doncaster for one though, that’s nowhere near me but there is a small local rescue very close by (not Milhaven who wouldn’t give me a rodent when I needed a replacement after Rumball died). I...

A pitiful existence for a lonely rodent

I put my very beautiful much loved rodent Pretty Fat down over a week ago. She wasn’t well and given her age (5 years 4 months) I thought it was the best thing to do. However that has left me with her sister Ugly. Ugly and I have never liked each other, we just both loved her sister. Pretty Fat...

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

Guinea pigs are very different to rats. Rats are carnivores, guinea pigs are herbivores. Put a carnivore and herbivore together and it may not end well. Their was plenty of headroom for my rodents when they were out on the grass. Rumball and Fudge loved being outside on the grass but when...

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

Thanks. I think Fudge was beautiful, Rumball wasn't good looking but he was a much more friendly rodent and liked nibbling me. They're both dead now though.

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

They’d would have hopefully of been okay as they were like this with a couple of heavy hammers on top of the enclosure but they could have gotten scratched and scared.

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

@ Lady Kelly – I didn’t know humane rat traps existed. I’ll give that some thought. @ MattDaMan – I’ve heard of cats running off with guinea pigs before. & I know when my rodents had a cat try and grab one of them, neither of my rodents flinched an inch, they seemed oblivious to the stalking...

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

I have a dish under the fat balls which catch some of the debris but when the jackdaws come and peck at the pellets and fat balls debris is scattered in all directions.

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

You tore down your hut?! I could stop feeding the birds, that may encourage them to move on however I think they’re quite happy where they are. I live next to a lake and by the river, we’re never going to eradicate rats where I live. They’re currently living in the rockery next door although...

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

Due to cuts the council don’t deal with rats anymore. I wouldn’t want to poison them though, it’s mean plus other animals get inadvertently poisoned too. My friend hammered to death a fitting mouse once, andI've seen a few dead shrews and mice after neighbours have been poisoning rats. Plus the...

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

I’m not sure how I’d securely attach mesh to my windows without damaging my décor or upvc windows.

Are my indoor guineapigs in danger of being eaten by rats?

Do rats creep through windows into your home? I know they can just run up houses because some live in attics so technically there wouldn’t be anything stopping them from coming into your home when you have the windows open right? I was thinking about this yesterday. There’s breeding rats very...

Why's My Rodent Going Bald Again?

Sorry to hear about your rodent that died and the really ill one Debbie. It does sound similar. Thanks for asking him about my rodent Debbie, I'm glad he isn't overly concerned about mine. She's looking good now, it's all growing back nicely but I think slower than the last time.

Why's My Rodent Going Bald Again?

Did you bring up the conversation of my balding rodent to Simon Maddock yesterday Debbie? If so, what did he say?

Why's My Rodent Going Bald Again?

I was right, the rodent's fur is growing back. There's now 1mm's new growth all over the bald areas. I've been looking at my dates to see if there's a pattern... 2016 12th Aug - She was very poorly with a URI. In the 2-3 months prior to this she had slight balding between the shoulder blades...

Why's My Rodent Going Bald Again?

@ Natwee88 - Reporting me to the RSPCA would be wasting the RSPCA'S money, time and resources. @ Debbie - Pretty Bald's baldness isn't worrying me that much, apart from some hairloss she seems fine. If in 3 or 4 weeks her hair hasn't regrown or she's lost more and it's gotten very cold in the...

Why's My Rodent Going Bald Again?

I haven't taken her, she's still fine in herself. The other rodent was scratching a bit though a week or so ago so I gave them some Xeno just to be on the safe side to rule out mites again. I presume Pretty Bald's hair will grow back again soon, I hope it's before the cold weather sets in.
