Hi guys. Just wondering if you guys have any knowledge on TheHayHutch 100% timothy hay pellets and if they are any good in terms of nutrients, etc? I am only planning to give my 2 piggies 1/2 tsbp for "treats" as I am sticking to all natural treats and enrichment for them...

Thank you so much.

And also, I just wanted to say how grateful I am for this forum.

On instagram you see these accounts where the care they give their guinea pigs are just wrong! Too many pellets, too many parsleys, too many dills, too many store-bought treats... i even saw one pointing the fan directly to the cage! I am just so frustrated!

Sorry, rant over! I always promote this forum everytime I give advise but the sad thing is some people now prioritise making their care for guinea pigs "aesthetically" pleasing to the point of compromising their proper care.

Id not heard of these so i have just looked them up.
They look fine in that they are just Timothy hay - but they don’t appear to contain stabilised vitamin c (not that I can see any information pertaining to nutrients and my take on that is because it is literally just milled Timothy hay with no further nutrients).
This is not a problem but it would mean you would need to make sure you are feeding a good variety of veg (and if and when available wild forage) to make sure they are getting enough of everything else.

Piggie Parcels is a very good and highly recommended make. The owner of the company of a member of the forum.
I will add a link below to her pellets, they do contain stabilized vit c and other nutrients.
Personally I’d go with these over the hay hutch ones

Piggie Pellets

Thank you, they have 2tbsp of the selective naturals grain free pellets :) and they also have veggies.

Unfortunately they wouldn't touch the piggie parcels :(

Regarding wild forage, i would like to give them fresh grass as well but i have no fresh grass in our garden to give them, is readigrass good to give in place of fresh grass? :)

So are you thinking of stopping giving the selective naturals pellets entirely with the hay hutch ones?

If you are stopping the selective naturals then, as i said, you must ensure a good variety of veg to provide the vit c that they would no longer get from the pellets (assuming the hay hutch are not fortified)

Or just still giving the selective naturals and then still giving an additional half tablespoon of the hay hutch as treats.

If the latter is your plan - then technically there shouldn’t be any harm in doing that because the hay hutch pellets don’t seem to contain anything other than hay. The only thought would be that there wouldn’t be any actual benefit to it because the hay hutch pellets don’t contain anything other than hay!
The selective naturals pellets themselves can be considered treats and thrown into hay as forage.

I only give mine 5 pellets each on a Wednesday and another 5 on a Sunday - so they are their treats.
It would just be a personal choice thing if you’re still giving the selective naturals rather than an actual nutrient thing because the hay hutch pellets don’t seem to contain anything!

Readigrass is fine in small amounts as a treat/forage thrown into hay. It can be rather too rich to be used in large quantities or to replace fresh grass. Hay is the replacement for fresh grass
