Hello we recently purchased a young guinea pig from a pet store, as the last few days she has developed 2 bumps on her nose. They are not bleeding but are more like open sores. We brought her a few days ago to the vet over an ear problem, as these have appeared the last few days. Any ideas
thanks PJ

Difficult to say anything without seeing a piccie - but open sores on nose is often indicative of ringworm (fungal) infection. If it is localised it can be treated topically wih something like surolan- but if looks like it's spreading (and in view of recent ear infection) then best get to vet.

Welcome to the forum PJ. I have to agree with some of Pebble's thoughts; would you be able to share a photo of the problem?

Hi PJ I just replied to your other post. If the guinea pig has mites she could be scratching her nose. However it could also be ringworm as Pebble suggested. Where are you located? Please take your piggie to the vets asap. We may be able to suggest a good guinea pig vet here on the forum as there are members from everywhere on here :))
Also think about getting your girl a friend (girl) from a rescue, she'll be less stressed and much happier :)

Please have your piggie seen by a vet!

Ringworm (fungus) is the most likely offender with sores on the nose/ears/head area. It can spread quickly amongst animals and is therefore something that is not uncommon in shop bought piggies that have been all thrown together during shipping to the shop and while in the shop.

Here is some info about ringworm:

The other likely complaint is mange mites, although they tend to rather start on the body (rump) than in the face area:
