I am a teacher and discovered my two sweet pigs dead this morning. They had a large enclosure and no children had access to them. I found them both with eyes open and blood coming out of ones nose and blood out of the others anus. I am concerned they were poisoned intentionally and/but hoping for another possible cause. Not sure how I will tell my daughter what happened. Any ideas?

I am sorry for your loss, two dying together may indicate environmental factors as you have mentioned. Unfortunately barring a costly post Mortem, it will be unable to verify the cause. I am very sorry

I am very sorry for you loss; something like this can really whack to totally!

It sounds rather like an environmental factor. A post mortem examination by a vet may show whether some kind of poison was involved, whether chemical or plant matter. Guinea pig dying from sheer fright (which can happen), heat stroke etc. usually don't have any marks or signs on them.

How awful. My heart goes out to you and your daughter. Poor little things, how you tell your daughter depends on how old she is I suppose. If you can afford a post mortem then it sounds like a good idea so that you can get you and your family some answers.

Oh no- I'm so sorry! What a shock! It does sound as though something environmental may have been the culprit. My cousin had guinea pigs die in similar circumstances (with bleeding from the anus) after they accidentally ingested lawn chemicals. She had moved to a new house and waited a month to put the pigs out, believing that any lawn treatment would have dissipated by that time, but unfortunately this was not the case. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I do not mean to upset anyone...
I had them autopsied and it is 100% certain the were given rat poison. To aggravate the situation, they were then abused. Vet can not be 100% certain but both vets believe this to be true due to the massive internal injuries they had. This is extremely upsetting and sick. I want you all to know that I appreciate your love for these little defenseless animals. some might say they are just rodents, but I loved mine and know they had their own personalities, likes and dislikes. Big things and little living things need not be abused.

Oh, what dreadful news  I'm so sorry you have had to go through this :soz:

Oh how absolutely abhorrent that somebody is sick enough to even think about doing that.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I simply can't comprehend why anyone would do such a terrible thing. Poor piggies. This whole thing must've been horrible for you. xx

I am so sorry for your tragic loss. Poor babies. How could ANYONE do this to your precious pets. I hope whoever done this pays a price.

There are some very sick humans in this world. RIP piggies. Hugs to you and your daughter :( x

I am so very sorry, that's is awful. There are some sick b£stards out there and I hope they get their comeuppance xx

Oh how awful. I am really sorry. You must be so angry and sad. Rest in peace lovely guinea pigs.

Oh my goodness that so horrible D:
At least their suffering is over now, poor poor piggies :,( xx

Oh i am so sorry. My heart goes out to you :bye:

To lose any loved pet no matter what shape or size it is, is always hard to come to terms with, but to find that someone has intentionally caused them harm, must be devastating for you!
There certainly are some sick, twisted & evil individuals out there, i don't suppose there was any classroom cctv at the time was there?
it would be great if you could catch the culprit(s) & get them charged with animal cruelty, they'll probably turn out to be psycho child or adult killers or molesters at a later date, often animal cruelty is the precursor to other disturbing & violent crimes. if it was an adult they shouldn't be working with children & if it was a child/minor they have serious mental health issues that need to be addressed before they get to adulthood

hopefully there is karma in the world & they will get their comeuppance!
i wouldn't be responsible for my actions if i knew someone that had done something so barbaric to my pets.

RIP little guineas, suffer no more. xx

That's terrible... people are sick. ((HUGS)) to you. Were there any kind of security cameras around or anything else to help catch the sicko who did this?

This is horrendous. My heart goes out to you.

Please call the police and the RSPCA. This is a criminal offence and deserves investigation.

Someone has trespassed on your property to murder your pets. Trespassing alone is a criminal offence.

I hope you are able to get some answers and bring the culprits to justice. This would most likely carry a short jail sentence. Take it as seriously as someone breaking into your house.
