2nd tier or mezzanine?

i've been thinking of doing something diff for the girls, like a second tier or maybe just a ramp leading up to a landing? After chatting to Niki this morning i thought right that's it........so chatted to Allan tonight and he said you tell me what you want and i'll build it :)
So i'm thinking there house is roughly 6x2' and about 1 1/2' high approx. do you think i could do like a half extra level or a 1/3 or should i like Allan said put another whole section on top, i'd have to make the ramp in a few sections other wise it would be long and scary to climb up or down :{
If you've done this or have ideas i'd really appreciate you helping me. Duke and Sully just had another total area like the one the girls have but i'd like it to be more interesting, but i also need it to be easy to clean at mo it's a whizz i just whip out all the paper, hay etc.. and sweep clean and wipe out.

Aw sounds like a fab idea, mine all used to have an upper level in their C&C's which was 1xlike 3 or 4 depending on the width of the cage! The girls loved them and used to go crazy running up and down as babies so i'm sure yours will love it! I think either idea sounds good, it depends how awkward a whole new level would be to clean too? I do like the idea of a whole new level though! Lucky piggies Velvet and Onyx! lol x

mmmmmm i think i'll have to take full measurements and do a few sketches to work this all out 8:)
 
Good luck with it Glynis, my girls used to have a second level too They had a 8x2 lower tier and a 2x3 upper. So easy to do I would go with a full foot high. Cleaning out was a pain though! I liked the big cage was so funny seeing Elora block the ramp so there was a piggy pile up god rest her soul!

haha i don't sleep much, my cat wakes me up to be fed pretty early! You will have to let us all know and we need pics once it's done! x

so Lou if it was 1' off ground how much room did you have on top? and did you also have like mini handrails so they'd not fall off the top level and what about the ramp did you have sides on that too?
i have open cage with three solid walls and one wall has perspex (see thru stuff) and their lid of the cage is heavy mesh wire so a certain Miss Bella could not possibly get in!
 
My piggies have a second level in their hutch. It isn't very big but is big enough for them both to lay up there and chill if they want to. Good luck and remember pics when it's completed xx
 
I used grids which are a foot high lay grids on the bottom then attach the upper level to the grids that are laying down. Not sure this is making much sense...lol

To stop them falling I attached a grid on the front by the ramp and overlapped a grid there so they wouldn't fall down. :)
 
Glynis have you tried bending a grid around a door to make it a kind of C shape? i did that and then attached two together to make a ramp :) that worked to stop them falling off!

Here you go Glynis - different upper levels:

Toddies first hutch with a partial upper level - access via the tunnel (he would jump onto tunnel) That's a bottle in a sock you can see, not Toddie :))

Niki your cages always look like an adventure playground for pigs, like a den! I f i was a pig i'd want a house like that! xx

Aww ta Ems x>> - they liked it. Tho' they don't look like that now - they have stools which they love so the pipes have gone. Toddie, Lyric & Lark now have a loft but they're still getting aquainted with it. Huxley & Hamish love theirs & Haggis & Tait need a new ramp to access theirs :)
