Hey Guinea pig lovers and friends!
I have just found this site in my desperate attempt to find my three wandering guinea pigs.
The story: the three males somehow escaped their hutch and have been missing all day.
I have been searching the internet to find how far they will roam from their home, as I am trying to limit my search area to somewhere they may be hiding.
I can't seem to find any info on this, so if anyone knows please share.
It has been raining all day, so I think they might be hiding.
Trying not to panic :bye:

You could leave a carrier in the garden with a blanket, a carrot and hay (if there are any bushes try there). Leave the hutch open with food inside it and hopefully they'll come home. Of course, check frequently.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm so pleased that you managed to catch two of them. I’d recommend putting dirty hay that smells of them in the carrier or box. That might lure him back. 🤞. Good luck

Thank you, I have followed your advice. I was out in the dark and rain for 2 hours looking for him. An impossible quest. I have to surrender for the evening and hope that he finds the carrier.
He wasn't too far from where the other boys are now. They are making a lot of calls, so fingers crossed he will be outside the cage in the morning.
Thanks for your advice 🤞

So relieved for you and glad they’re all back. Please make sure to secure their hutch. I bet you’re now super happy they’re all well 😮‍💨😆

The other thing to consider is the long term setup. Three boars rarely work together. If they are young then you don’t want to wait until there is a fallout - this could result in all three having to live bachelor lives.

Would it be possible for you to see which two get on well and get one friend for the singleton?

@Siikibam
Definitely, a relief to have them back, all the thoughts that cross your mind are unbearable.
One is almost 2 years old (Pistachio), and the other two are brothers and they are about 1 year old. I adopted the two brothers (Noodle and Nibbles) to accompany Pistachio after his friend Milo sadly passed away.
Milo and Pistachio had a love-hate relationship and took months of slowly meeting to form a bond.
I was very anxious to adopt 2 more boars. However, as soon as they met they seemed to be fine together. Pistachio is very submissive and curious. And the other two seem to share a similar temperament. So far (2 months) there hasn't been any fighting. Do you think that this could occur in the future? Or perhaps it could be a good match? I appreciate your guidance and advice as I have very limited experience with introducing boars to each other.

It could be a good match or it could be the calm before th/e storm. As long as you are aware of what could happen then it’s okay. I would still recommend you find one a friend and have them in pairs. I don’t know the situation with rescues in your area or country - probably few and far between.

forewarned is forearmed ☺️
