We've had Peep since I was in grade 7 and I've graduated this year in June. She's been having problems pooping the past month or two but we feed her critical care and she's fine after that. But starting today roughly 6 hours ago or something she's been making this hiccuping motion. It's hard to describe. She's not making any weird noises and she sounds like she's breathing properly but she's making this motion. We can't go to the vet until tomorrow morning (I'm in Canada by the way and it's 11:26PM here). This started late at night when the vet was already closed. She's still pooping and peeing and she ate a bit but not nearly as much as she used to. She can still move around but she doesn't seem herself. Aside from this hiccup motion and "less interest" in food (she still eats a bit) there doesn't seem to be anything different with her. She doesn't seem really lethargic as my old guinea pigs used to be but she's not as active as usual. Any idea what this may be? I can give more information if you guys want. Nothing in her appetite or bedding has changed at all.

Does this happen more when she's tired or all the time & has she recently suffered from a head tilt. Minky, who has suffered from a head tilt for over 2 months does something similar. Her head will move a little sideways then jump back to where it started like a slow motion hiccup. Probably a trip to the vets will reveal what it is. Get well soon Peep. xx

It seemed to just randomly start today six hours ago. She's still not very interested in food but she'll eat a bit. It also seemed to come and go. When I was feeding her critical care she wasn't doing that. We gave her a break between every syringe like fifteen seconds so she could chew and be relaxed and she wasn't doing the hiccup motion but when I was petting her before that she was. Her poos look a bit strange too. They're either abnormally long or short. She is still pooing and peeing. Maybe she has a stomach ache and we're overreacting. Either way were going to the vet to make sure. Edit: She'll eat if we hand feed her or put the food right in front of her.

I am no expert. But my 6 and a half year old male guinea pig Spike was very lethargic and not eating when I got home from work yesterday. I checked his bum and he had quite a bit impaction problem. I cleaned it out. He immediately became active and started eating. I have just checked his bum again this morning and cleaned it out again. He is much more his old self. I know this may not be your Little chaps problems but it may be of help. I hope you get a solution and she starts to perk up.

Ok guys an update. I was changing her house where she sleeps and there were very big poos. They were very wide and I think that's why she was "hiccuping". She was probably constipated and trying to get it out of her. I'm about to go to sleep now so we'll see in the morning. I've never seen poos that big before.

I hope that she will be OK. Please weigh her daily to make sure that she is eating enough and see your vet if she doesn't get better.

Check out my video under the thread head twitch. My guinea pig was making funny head twitches when she was falling asleep. Some of the things vetthought it might be was ear mites, ear infection, arthritis of neck, joint pain or seizures. It turned out it was none of this, its just a quirk of hers. Hope vet gives you answers!

Hey guys, it was just constipation. She's back to her normal self and completely fine.
