mallethead seriously, that advice was given in my pet shop to me today!
Makes you wonder doesn't it!

I've seen pics of breeders' 120's with that many in on their websites proudly showing how well they keep them. Their standards are different to ours - their governing body states 3ftx1ft for a single or a pair, adding 1 sq ft per extra pig.

Needless to say they wouldn't pass a homecheck by a rescue!

I was told ferplast 80 was perfect for 2!

Those people just think about them like 'animals' which i understand they are, but they are a living things just like any human, and nobody would live in a small room with 6 or 7 other people so why make piggies do it!

I was part of a rescue of 11 piggies. There was,

7 girls in a 120
4 boys in a 100

It's horrible and so cramped, i don't see how anyone could see that many pigs in a cage and think it's fine ! Wish everyone would give the right information

Omg that is terrible, we currently hard 2 boys in a 120 they are still young at 9 months and getting bigger so starting to look for a bigger cage for them, can see that its getting small for them can't imagine how it would look with that many piggies in it

It was disgusting with inches of poo and just muck on the plastic levels, rotten vegetables and everything, they all fought with eachother just because they didn't have there own space they were all over each other all the time not out of choice just because they had to, i can't see how people could ever do that to any animal :/

keeping 7 in a 120 for a car journey yeah fine ... for their life no certainly not!

when I was first looking at piggies p@h told us a 100cm would be fine for 3 piggies ... I have 3 girls in a cage 4x2 grid with a 80cm cage attached and its not that big at all IMHO. Its actually small for them but for now its all I can do will get a cage upgrade at some point though

going by the state of a litter tray 2 pigs have used I cant imagine the mess from 7 in such a small space eww

I don't understand it at all!

People who keep their piggies in such small cages are missing out on so much. You can let a piggy out for an hour or two a day - but it's not the same as watching them potter around doing their piggy thing in their own big space. The stuff they get up to is priceless!

When my boys were pretty much free ranging they were so funny. I'd be sitting at my desk working and I'm sure they were playing lets see who dares get close to the lady! haha. They kept creeping up behind me and I'd catch them out the corner of my eye, when I turned round they'd run off, then a few minutes later come back -so so funny!

They had a whole corner sectioned off which was about 2 metres long by 1.5 metres long but I used to leave the pen door open for them to come and go as they please when I was at home. I only shut it at night time and when I was out.

Both my hutches are 5 and a half foot long, 3 foot wide and 3 foot tall, the piggies are in a double level hutch and Betty has a single level hutch so she can stand on her back legs if she wants to. I wouldn't dream of putting any more than in the hutch. If any more come along they'll get their own hutch too! Luckily, I've plenty of space in the shed to expand if I need to. ;)

How lovely! I've got 2 cats, a dog and 4 rampaging kids so this wouldnt work for me, but I am trying to organise a better floor time set for them.

I'm afraid it doesn't really shock me, pet shops are about profit and not welfare. My local pets shop Dolittles (Wolvo people might know it) is generally really good, their enclosures are very rarely overcrowded (only young babies are put in slightly smaller pens) and i've heard them giving really good advice to others. I prefer good old forums for advice compared to pet shops though
