It was nice to meet you Al and Claire today. Thanks for taking so many piggies Claire and i hope they thrive with you , I'm sure they will. Same to you Al and thanks Theresa for taking some off Al. Look forward to meeting Ali(almentalcat) tomorrow who is relieving me of 6 boys tomorrow who all need some TLC.

In the last few days i have managed to take 85 pigs of this woman, she wants to keep 20 so only 98 to go!!

A local rescue has just got in touch and said she can take quite a few as well, so i'm getting thererolleyesrolleyesI think!

Great team work. I hope the woman is becoming easier to work with?

Well done, that is a terrific number. Keep us posted. :)

and thank you to you too my dear for taking on such a huge task of getting them removed and safely driving them to us in the first place. I'm sure I speak on behalf of all the other guys and gals involved when we say you've done a fantastic job.

All this lot have settled down nicely for the night and i'm sure there won't be a scrap of food left in any bowl when I wake in the morning as they haven't stopped eating since. It's sad to see so many baby and young guinea pigs with no weight on them at all.

A few have sticky eyes, 1 has a large abcess ( cottage cheese style! :)>>> )
a couple are showing signs of ringworm, but most of the neglect seems to be through lack of food as all but 3 are underweight, a few seriously..

Well done Sue and thank you for your hard work.

Claire

Well done Sue I hope you had a good rest after all that driving, you are doing a great job. I hope the lady remains co-operative in getting the rest of them out.
I hope all the guineas that have arrived at the other rescues do well sounds as if they are in need of some tlc good luck to everyone.

I know I've said this before but isn't there something you can do? like report her or something. You've been doing an amazing job! I'm so sorry I don't live near by, *dreams of a farm so she could take them all*. Rest and keep doing such a wonderful job EVERYONE!

I am sending you my best wishes and a BIG HUG!

A huge well done to all of you, you have outdone yourselves by taking on such a big group of guins.

just reading all that brought a tear to my eye! I think it's amazing how much love and kindness you have for our little furry friends, and i agree that the women in question should not be able to keep pets ever again.

If i had the space i would take them all, so sorry i can't help and well done to everyone who can x>>

My 'newbies' have settled in nicely, quite outgoing considering and all very young so hopefully they will forget their old routine in the near future...i'm not going to post all their pictures on here as there are 24 of them, 12 girls and 12 boys.A mixture of Shelties,a couple of Aby's,a bit of Rex and a few other bits and pieces thrown in for good measure...suffice to say that once they are all ok they will all bar two be available for rehoming in East Anglia..the two are staying here as additions to my own hairy mob, couldnt resist them..

and here they are,

Wow Allan Ashley is just beautiful! No wonder she is staying with the Hairy mob (are you over your limit of 10 pets yet? LOL I had a limit once now we have 46 permanent residents through me falling in love with some and many with medical problems who would be hard to home elsewhere) You will end up like me ...more sanctuary than rescue:))

Over the limit, not quite but certainly against the barrier, those two will take the mob up to 10,nine girls and Amos,he's been skipping about all day, fussing about them.

Well i've got good news and bad news about my little newbies.

Bad news first......i'm afraid that one of the slightly older boys had a one way trip to the vets this afternoon8.... I was very worried about him - he was covered in dribble and he stank (infection) round his mouth. Not nice. I hoped that it was a bit of fungal or something, but sadly not. Suffice to say it was kinder to have him pts.
His mate also has a bit of an 'issue'. Between the vet and me we think that he has sight problems, or is blind.

But, on a slightly brighter (?) note, the other little boars have all settled in nicely, they are in 2 groups, and are beginning to munch the hay. They've all been Ivomec'd, nails clipped, ears cleaned and had a spray of anti-mite. I won't do anything else with them for the next few days apart from feeding them up a bit.

Nice to meet you today Sue, sorry it's not better news!

Tillythepig those pig pics show two very gorgeous piggies!

Ali, what a shame about the older boy, poor little lad, but good to hear about the other little boars :)

They are all good looking piggies, the shelties have had good haircuts prior to coming here but they will grow again,a couple of the others below,

HI Ali, Thanks for taking so many, you came out for 6 and ended up taking 16!! Thankyou for taking the '2 boys', i had so many other sick ones to deal with you took a weight off my shoulders. Very sad that he has gone but sadly not surprised anymore. I also had the one that has been really ill put to sleep today as well.

Nice to meet you and Mel and i'm sure we will keep in touch x

I understand your concern, but i felt these pigs were in urgent need of help. If i got the RSPCA involved then she would have clammed up and not been helpful. It's seems she will only deal with me over this and so my aim was to get as many pigs as i physically could away. I have now used as many rescues near enough to help that i can. I have another rescue taking a lot tomorrow, as Ali has freed up a lot of hutches for me today i can also take more. Me and i think the rescues that have helped are now completely full ,( me almost bursting, lol)

I have manged to get just over 130 away from her going to me and lots to other rescues. I have now contacted an RSPCA ACO who also runs a g.pig rescue. She will be going to her in the next few days to take whats left and distribute to rescues she knows and to also see the conditions of the ones she is keeping etc. I have told the person in question and she is fine about it.

So overall a good result all round i think and the RSPCA *** be seeing her.
Thanks again to everyone involved and all you nice messages on threads and pm's of support. I will let you know how my lot go and i'm sure the other rescues will as well. Feel completely drained and will be over the moon when all these piggies are fit enough to popcorn round the garden:)):)):)):))

Just a quick update. I took a batch of them to the vet last night for a check up. 16 of the 24 have conjunctivitis, probably caused by the high amonia levels in the hutches as I believe they were crammed in and not cleaned out very often. In particular a mother texel and her young baby are suffering badly.

One which I am concerned about as she is balding and painfully thin we now believe has just stopped weaning young. This explains the hair loss. The poor little girl is still a baby herself but I believe I do have one of her babies here so I will be re-uniting them so they can live together. I did think maybe she had ringworm so happy to say she hasn't. At some point she has also taken a good beating as she is covered in bites.

All of them are suffering with running lice and the babies in particular have 100s and 100s of eggs smothering their ear areas. At least it's not mites.
Mites aren't suspected on any that I have here.

The same as Al, I have a mixture of Sheltie, Texel, Rex, Teddy and cross breeds all of which are in-bred. I will be keeping some and make another herd to live with another of our neutered boars. Just need to buy them another shed or playhouse that I can convert into a playground.

PACT animal sanctuary have kindly agreed to take some of the babies and if they aren't pregnant they will re-home them. By having 24 sows here that have been mixed with boars it could soon become a nightmare so i'm grateful for their help.

Just a quick update for you all.....

The black and white Sheltie boar (Arthur), who has the eyesight problem is now living with an old spayed sheltie sow, who is 'mothering' him - I am going to keep him as he is settled now.

All of the other little boars have new homes to go to:)...... i will hang onto them for another week or so, but they have all put on lots of weight and seem pretty healthy considering their dodgy start!

They are going in pairs, which is great!

So all in all, a pretty happy ending for my little lot, its just sad that the other older boy didn't make it.

Ho hum, the ups and downs of piggies.

Ali xx
