For those of you who have been around for a while you may remember that Ruby is our 'challenging' guinea pig.
In her 3 short years with us she has fallen out with 5 other guinea pigs - a mixture of both sows and boars - Ruby isn't picky, she dislikes all guinea pigs equally.
And her dislike of others extends to humans too - Ruby has one person in this world that she likes and that's it.
She bites other people, refuses to be handled by other people, and is just generally shouty and nippy if anyone other than her one special person tries to touch her.
She's a sweet little thing - not.
Ruby's rage at seeing other guinea pigs meant that we always kept all adjoining C&C grids firmly covered so she couldn't 'shout' at the other guinea pigs.
If Ruby so much as caught sight of a guinea pig she would hurl herself at the divider, puffed up and with her teeth chattering.
But I think we have had a breakthrough.
Just recently she started to sit by the joining cage wall, so we slowly (oh so slowly) started to move the cover aside.
It has been 6 long months since we started, but now the cover is gone and she is only separated by a C&C grid!
RUBY HAS LEARNT TO LOOK AT OTHER GUINEA PIGS!
OK, she only sits there for a short period of time, and she does still try to eat Lucy's face if she gets too curious, but this is huge (for Ruby).
Baby steps, baby steps...
