May I point out (again) that we do NOT approve on this forum of an unneutered male being introduced to a sow - especially one you do not know age or background of? By all means and intents, this counts as intentional breeding and is against the forum rules. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36529

You are lucky in so far that your new girl is not in season, so there is no harm done if you keep them separated by bars from now on. However, you will not find any further help on here if you insist on ignoring any clearly stated rules and advice.

how do you know shes not in "season" For now they are seperated because I did not know that I was going to be destroyed on here for it. untill i fgiure out about neuter or just returning her.

I did not intentional do anything!! First rule is to be POLITE to everyone... I didnt know about all this and i never had an INTENTION to get her preg!!! I just heard horror stories about male and male that is why i did not go that route!

But hang on, you ahve put them together, after evrything people have said. That is intentionally putting them together.

I am shocked you still thing putting them together is alright after everything people have said...

And you are considering returning her because you didn't research before hand... Jesus, how irresponcible.

Wiebke was being polite, it is you who is continuously flouting the forum rules, and doing what I feel is very distressing for people on this forum, including myself. And you cannot say you don't know because it has been spelt out to you on the other thread.

I think you have been around here long enough to know that we do not discuss breeding, let alone post videos of attempts. It is basic common sense, boar + sow = babies. Please do not think you are being kind by rescuing an abandoned pig then immediately starting to breed from her. This is just cruelty. I have reported you to the mods and hopefully this thread will be closed immediately. Please come back for help when your guinea pig nears her birth time, and in the meantime have a vet on standby for the poor sow you have taken in and put with a boar.

OMG! read! I was not intentional putting them together to breed! jesus no one reads here apparently!! I just rescued her today because i felt really bad for her! They are not together! He is in his pen and she is in the other cage! I had no idea i was going to get this reaction! My goal WAS NOT TO GET A FEMALE to breed, Just wanted a friend for buddy to make sure he was not lonely! why is that such a big deal!

I did not know this board for anti breeding, I dont come here to read for that, I only posted in th general chat and in the food section, I did not read the rules so i had no idea i would get jumped with not even an intention of doing what you are saying i was! that was never the plan in the first place, I did not know because I am a newbie in the piggy world and your all acting like I'm supposed to know everything and you need to lay off me its not really fair

because on that video they are in there together...

How can you say they are not together!?

-Carma

Yes at the time i put them together to see if they woudl get along! i wanted peoples opps if that was a good video or bad!! they were together for 3 mins and 25 seconds before i took her away completely

Nobody likes being jumped on, but may I make it clear that nobody on here has been out of bounds of correctness and polite language in their posts.

When you register, you are asked to please read the rules - exactly to avoid unpleasant scenes like these.

It would also have been good if you had read a bit into what else was going on on the forum, so you had got a feel for the drift of this place.

Rescues on here deal a lot with private breeding gone haywire, and many members have joined when they were suddenly faced with surprise pregnancies due to the carelessness of shops and breeders, or unintentional in-breeding because of wrong advice or sheer ignorance.
It is a very sensitive subject, and we are dealing all too often with the ugly side of it and are trying our best for all those poor piggies that have to live out the consequences.

Repeat boar + sow = babies, whatever your intention you must surely know the basic facts of life. Big deal is your irresponsibility.

3 minutes is enough for humans, why wouldn't it be for guinea pigs. He very nearly mounted her in that video, but yet I saw no hands in there to stop it.

You have an un-neutered boar, an un-spayed sow (which you know!). You have intentionally placed them together. In my book that counts as intentionally putting them together knowing there is a chance they could breed.

Come on, seriously are you telling me that you don't know the facts of life?

You were told in your previous thread (the one which got locked) what could happen if you put them together including the dangers to her because of her age if you did get pregnant. You have chosen to ingore this, with a blatant disregard of the forum rules.

Whether you like it or not putting a "whole" mix -sexed pair in this situation counts as intentional breeding in my book.

yes you are correct 100% but i did not know that "babies" were so bad ok do you get that?? I DID NOT KNOW that it was that big of a problem! untill it was too late and i had her here already!

Yes i should have read the rules and understood you all are against it but i did not, that was my fault, but everyone here is ASSUMING that i did know everything and i do not, I had no idea it could be dangerous and i feel really bad for getting her now, All i wanted was a friend for lonely buddy, which EVERYONE on here was telling me to do.

thats why they call us newbies, for a reason.. I plan on either taking her back or getting him neutered. I just wanted a friend for him that is all..

Hope I can post this

So you think you want babies? Time for a reality check. There are many homeless guinea pigs in this country. Sweet, innocent guinea pigs are killed in shelters every day. Rescues across the country are almost always full. Why? Irresponsible pet ownership. You think you are not or will not be one of them? Let's take a look at the realities of breeding.

According to Tracy Iverson, ARBA Cavy Judge and President of the ACBA (American Cavy Breeders Association), "... breeding a sow means a 20% chance she will die ..." For

Sadly if you persist in breaking forum rules, the mods may well ban you. Although you may feel at the moment that you wouldn't mind in the slightest, it would be a great shame as we will then not be able to help when your sow comes near to her time. This may seem wrong or confusing to you that we will offer up birthing advice, but no one on here would withold advice or help which may result in a guinea pig suffering. It is the intentional act of breeding, particularly in the circumstances you have outlined that we condemn. Please stop posting about your breeding attempts.

Before we jump to conclusions, maybe that video was made BEFORE it was explained to the OP that putting an un neutered male and a female together wasn't a good idea.

I am just trying to give the OP the benefit of the doubt at the minute to give her a chance.

Please do stop posting videos of Buddy and the female together though and do get him neutered before you put them together again. I have a guinea pig who was used for breeding and she is now scared of boars and it has taken her a while to trust people.

As for what Wiebke said, she has given some valuable advise. It is clear from your video that your female isn't allowing Buddy to mate with her so she isn't in season so hopefully hasn't caught.

Your answer will always be that its a bad idea.

I understand that you just want to get your piggy a friend I'm sure he would love a little male friend of his own or it would be great to re introduce him after neutering to your girl. Personally i think from that video the sow looks stressed being chased round that would be why she bit the hand that entered the pigloo.

I sucessfully had my Murphy neutered and he lived 3 happy years with his three girlfriends.

My other boys Joe, Jimmy and Chocolate all live together happily there are plenty more sucess storys of boys living together.

I am now closing this thread for the same reason i did the last.

All i wanted was a friend for lonely buddy, which EVERYONE on here was telling me to do.

NO ONE on here would have advised putting an un neutered boar with a sow. Even less a sow with no genetic history and of unknown age.
