Our rescue piggie, Dave, is recovering well following his neutering two weeks ago and is now full of beans. We have noticed however that his remaining 'bits' are still visibly 'out' (hard to talk about this stuff without using euphemisms!). Is this normal? Or should we take him back to the vets, which we are loathe to do unless absolutely necessary as it was so traumatic for him last time.

H is still being a good little patient and lives indoors so we do not want to put him back in his cage until we know he is well, although he has been getting grass-time.

Good news that Dave is back on the road, I wouldn't know what to do myself, personally. I do not know what a neutered boar's bits would look like, but I think I'd wait and see for a few weeks more.

I would wait a bit longer, but it only takes a stitch to fix the penis! ;)

would it need a general or local anaesthetic as we can't put him through a general again, poor piggie nearly pegged it!

I've just had two of my boars done, about 5 days ago, and both of their 'bits' look just as they did (just a few stitches and less volume where the testicles used to be). This is the only experience I've had of neutering, so I'm not sure if it's common for the penis to be extended (I assume that's what you mean). Will it go back in again at all or is it out all the time? Years ago I had an elderly boar who couldn't keep it in any more and I had to used some vaseline and tuck it back in for him, several times a day, or it got very dry and sore.

You could try posting a photo?

I must've been lucky, apart from the abscess which cleared up with medication and iodine baths, Rebel healed really well and you cant tell he ever had danglies! ;)
