So I have a sad, hooty pig. :( Well, I say she's sad. She's not really. She was in heat yesterday and was rumbling and popcorning like she owned the place. But she is very hooty/wheezy and it makes me want to cry :(

Bernadette, my beautiful Lunkarya, has been struggling with a wheezy chest since the start of October. She had a very nasty chest infection about 18 months ago, when the nasty weather (they lived outside at the time) blew the rain cover off their hutch and soaked all their bedding - and my poor Bernadette. I was at work so they had at least 2 hours in this soggy mess.
Now she's had treatment for wheezy hooting at the start of October, Baytril (0.25ml twice a day, for 10 days). From dose number 1, not a peep from her. It was a miracle. Now, when it started again yesterday, I put her back on it. She's 3 doses in and isn't improving. She is eating, drinking and walking around like she's not even bothered but I can't hear that hooting and believe that she's in full health. I am so sad.

My beautiful Bernadette (on the right, with her housemate Treacle) <3

Fingers firmly crossed for your poorly girl!

Please have her seen again; as it is a repeat, your vet may consider a stronger antibiotic and a diuretic if the lung is affected. He may also want to consider the heart.

I think that may be the case. The vet was concerned, as she had had a bad chest before (she has been an itty bit wheezy ever since that first infection) that it could potentially develop into pneumonia if left. This was why she was put on a larger, longer dose than would typically be given. x

I agree with Wiebke. Definitely ask the vet about diuretics and a different antibiotic.

In at the vets at 11.10am. Thankfully it's right behind my house (you can see 2 consultation rooms from our spare room!) So they aren't too traumatised by the travelling. Fingers crossed :(

Hope everything goes ok. Hooty piggies are such a worry.

Thinking of you

Good luck, lets hope its just a case of another dose of antibiotics and then she will be better...

I hope so. Since the Baytril isn't clearing it like it did before I'm very worried :-(

Back from the vets. The vet said the wheezing sounds quite high up in the chest rather than deep fluid in her lungs, so we're giving the Baytril another shot for 10 days to see if we can get rid of it.
Bernadette is now sat on my knee enjoying her nuggety breakfast - she wasn't happy when I took her to the vets without breakfast. :)

Thank you all :) my fiancé has given his first ever dose of medicine as I'm at work - she resists but she's one of the better ones at getting it over with :) very proud of him x

If it is more in the nose it may be worth considering Bisolvon from the vet or Children's Sudafed.
